I voted YES also because the world and especially the UK can always do with one less Chav!!!!

the death penalty will not be a deterrent to chavs because chavs do chavvy things, you can't murder them for that. unless they rise to the ranks of serial killer, child rapist or mad bomber, they aren't really going to qualify for the death sentence.

I still think that they should incur the death penalty just for being chavs Big Grin

RE: Could the Death Penalty return to the UK - mr williams - 12-08-2011 00:05

The original question was COULD the death penalty return to the UK and as things stand the answer is "no", because the death penalty is outlawed under both EU legislation and our status as a signatory to the European Charter of Human Rights.

Personally, I am torn between "no", as I am totally opposed to the death penalty because I believe that in a civilised society there is no place for a cold-blooded killing and "yes", because in a democracy the will of the people is paramount and opinion polls have consistently shown a majority in favour, and the actions of "the great and the good" in lording it over the rest of us and ignoring the wishes of the people has had a lot to do with the events of the past week.

Yes well Mr Williams this thread was really a 2 question answer because as you are aware yes the UK would have to resign from the EU as current laws forbid reinstating the death penalty as the home secretary at the time Jack Straw signed away the last protocol in Strasbourg in 1998 so to even make this debate feasible Britain would have to be an independent union once again and also if this was and could be the case what would your general feelings be if such a decision was taken, reading through the poll so far the general majority's feeling's seems to be no which is exactly what I also voted for. What the USA does is unethical and is an abuse of human rights by even adopting such a cruel and unusual punishment alongside other countries such as China and Iran etc and should not be practiced in a civilized western democracy irrespective of whether or not public opinion demands it, I am all for life with no parole which is also more likely to get a guilty conviction as Capital cases are flawed to the hilt. Again thanks very much for all the forum members who have voted so far.

What sort of democracy is it that ignores what the public demand ?.

A commonsense democracy thinwhiteduke because what you are effectively saying is let's also kill anybody that's of a different race, religion or creed if that's what public opinion demands and that's exactly what happened in Nazi Germany. Human rights is mandatory and that's something the UK can at least boast to having as opposed to America and the likes of old sparky.

Well at least you're giving ofcom a rest from calling them facists, so I suppose some one had to have it. I think your stance is much closer than mine though. What you're saying is the masses don't understand and they need to be guided.

RE: Could the Death Penalty return to the UK - Scottishbloke - 12-08-2011 01:49

Don't get me wrong I wasn't calling you a fascist, I was making a generalisation on what could happen in a society and how much things can spin out of control if you let the public demand such extremist measures to be put in place and after the riots I think the nation has to calm down before even contemplating such a debate or vote on the reintroduction of the death penalty in the UK which I don't think will ever happen but this thread has certainly made for some heavy debating, I never knew that on a babe channel forum that so many like minded pervs such as us lot could become free thinking politicians over night. PS - Who are ofcom Big Laugh

I've not voted because, i'm not sure if i'm not sure. But if I was sure, it would apply to all race, colour's and creeds..
