From what I have seen, if everything goes to plan and is not delayed again as it was last year, filming is due to begin on series 4 in April, with the series not expected to air until 2017.
Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss also announced that they have developed plots for a fifth series in addition to a fourth.

I watched the first couple of series a few years back and they were very good, but haven't kept track recently. Might have to watch the recent episodes.
