RE: RIP Nelson Mandela - admiral decker - 06-12-2013 00:58 Nelson Mandela was the man who chose forgiveness over bitterness and who thought that reconciliation was more important than recalling the past. RE: RIP Nelson Mandela - manic street pugilist - 06-12-2013 01:22 "What I will remember most about Mr. Mandela is that he was a man whose heart, soul and spirit could not be contained or restrained by racial and economic injustices, metal bars or the burden of hate and revenge. He taught us forgiveness on a grand scale." (Muhammad Ali) RE: RIP Nelson Mandela - Classic84 - 06-12-2013 01:28 Sad loss was a great leader! Sort of ironic. The news broke whilst the premiere was showing and the audience were told at the end of the film. RE: RIP Nelson Mandela - i'llbeback123 - 06-12-2013 05:02 The man was a absolute legend around the world. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family & friends at this very sad time. R.I.P Nelson Mandela - A truly remarkable man RE: RIP Nelson Mandela - Doddle - 06-12-2013 08:02 A sad day for the cause of peace. If there were more world leaders with his ability, there'd be more peace. RIP RE: RIP Nelson Mandela - Ree's No.1 fan - 06-12-2013 08:59 Nelson Mandela was a great man who was an icon to a generation. In the face of an extremely repressive regime he began a 'terrorist' campaign (one man's terrorist is another man's terrorist is a little simplistic but in the face of repression by an undemocratic regime there is a moral case that is worth considering). The human dignity and spirit of forgiveness that he showed after 27 years in imprisonment was remarkable and while his Presidency was somewhat mixed (questions of corruption and lack of action on the Aids epidemic are legitimate questions) he was truly a unifying rather than divisive figure (compare this with Thatcher's legacy). His sheer longevity - think how few survivors there will be from his birth cohort there will be especially given the maltreatment that he endured in prison - is remarkable and the world is truly a poorer place for his passing.
