Captain Cook has failed a fitness test & will miss the 2nd ODI,Morgan will step in.Alex Hales had already been called up as cover when there was doubt about Cook making the side.

England won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Anderson has got things underway.
Hopefully the weather will allow for some sort of game to conclude.

Carberry was given a chance today ahead of Hales, which is logical because he was already the spare batsman in the squad, although I would have preferred Hales myself. The forced change in opener because of Cook's injury was the only England change, so still no place for Bresnan. Sri Lanka have reached 129/2, just losing their second wicket on 30.4 overs.

Sri Lanka finish on 256/8 with 87 scored in the last 10 overs. A couple of catches went down and England conceded 15 wides. If England bat well this could be a very competitive chase, weather permitting.

Inept batting performance so far by the England batsmen first four

By the whole team in fact, except Morgan who got 40 of England's 99 all out.

Interestingly Bresnan was released to play for Yorkshire, yet Woakes wasn't made available for Warwickshire.

Totally woeful is all I have to say, I'd have been disappointed to have paid the entrance fee and been subjected to that performance.

I'm glad that England's stand-in captain, Morgan, was honest to say he couldn't explain this recent England poor batting performance. Better being straightforward than to use obfuscation in the after match press conference.
