Sri Lanka made 302/6 and set England a difficult task to win this match, not made easier by Moeen Ali being out to his first ball.

Another woeful performance bladewave The bat was terrible, the number of half trackers that were bowled was pathetic and even the fielding was poor. We need to get Alan Sugar to sort out the coaches.

Sri Lanka won by 87 runs

The future of Cook as Captain now hangs by a thread after yet another bad series for England.

The problem is that the most obvious alternative to lead the side in place of Cook is Eoin Morgan - and his form is even worse than Cook.

Bottom line: Is Cook one of Englands best six one day batsmen?
I would suggest the answer is no.
His form with the bat does not merit a place in the side.

Joe Root has captained yorkshire in limited overs cricket, James Taylor captains Notts (i know he is just in but think australia and george bailley).

Rumours are that Cook has been replaced by Morgan as England's ODI captain, although there hasn't been any official announcement yet. It's being said that Ballance will be called up to replace Cook as a batsman.

I think Root has a good chance of being England's ODI captain at some point in the future, but now probably isn't the right time.

In 7 innings in Sri Lanka Morgan only made double figures once, but still seems to be the most obvious choice for the captaincy.

It was only a week ago that Peter Moores was backing Cook to continue as captain, but it seems that the selectors have now bowed to the inevitable. It's a decision which was overdue, but better late than never I suppose.

As recently as Monday Paul Downton said that he'd be very surprised if Cook wasn't captain for the world cup. It does seem strange that he had such solid backing even until such a late hour, but least the right decision has been made, because this Sri Lanka tour has been terrible for Cook.

I think that done Cook a favour by removing him from the one day team. He can now focus on test batting again.

But there is still a problem, Eoin Morgan is badly out of form and there are lots of in form England batsman who could do the job. Big Kev is scoring runs again.
