They have your email address though. RE: TalkTalk Cyber attack - lovebabes56 - 25-10-2015 04:55 Click here to view this in a web browser This an update that I got in my email this morning : - TalkTalk Dear We know it’s been a worrying and frustrating time since Wednesday’s cyber attack on our website. We’re doing everything we can to get to the bottom of what happened as soon as possible and to keep you updated. Our investigations are currently showing the following: • The number of customers affected and the amount of data potentially stolen is smaller than originally thought. Our website was attacked, but our core systems weren’t and remain secure. • On its own, none of the data that may have been accessed could be used to leave you financially worse off. • We don’t store unencrypted credit or debit card data on our site, so any card details which may have been accessed have the 6 middle digits blanked out. For example, it would appear as 012345XXXXXX6789. This means it can’t be used for financial transactions. • No My Account passwords have been accessed. • No banking details were taken that you won’t already be sharing with people when you write a cheque or give to someone so they can pay money into your account. We will continue investigating and promise to keep you updated as we know more. In the meantime, we strongly encourage that you: • Sign up to your free credit reporting service using this code: TT231. We have partnered with Noddle, one of the leading credit reference agencies, to offer 12 months of credit monitoring alerts for all customers. You can find out more at http://www.talktalk.co.uk/secure. • Stay vigilant - TalkTalk will NEVER call customers and ask you to provide personal details or passwords. Please take all steps to check the true identity of any organisation that calls requesting personal information. If you have any doubts, please call us on 0800 083 2710 or 0141 230 0707. We are sorry for the concern this week’s attack has caused, but want to reassure you that we are doing everything possible to keep your information safe. For more information, please visit: http://www.talktalk.co.uk/secure. Yours sincerely, TAHanison Tristia Harrison Managing Director, Consumer I seems reassuring but surely they now have to realise that after having been targeted three times in a year, they have to beef up their data security, but it still doesn't go to any great detail of any changes they will make in future and I wonder how many people have signed up for Noddle. I guess the part about the credit card number may reassure some people but I guess the scammers can still find out your bank details another way... RE: TalkTalk Cyber attack - munch1917 - 25-10-2015 09:40 ^^ Lucky you, no email for me! I started doing their pay your bill early thing where you pay within 24hours of getting your bill and save 10% or so. Last month I didn't get any email notification that my bill was there, so couldn't get my saving. My bill is due this week, and with the site down, it looks like I'll miss out again. Regarding the credit report thing, I don't get it. They have partnered with 'noddle' (not a name that inspires confidence or exudes professionalism to me!), to offer 12 months free reports for all TT customers. But on the noddle website, they offer free credit reports for life. So that sounds like spin to me, hardly appropriate in the midst of this debacle. More than likely they offer that so that they can deflect as much flak away from themselves as possible mate. Not only that I get my bills on email too and for a while I paid by direct debit thinking it was a good idea but now i' even wondering whether I'll get this months bill in an email too!! And I can't see the site being back up and running in time for them to give access to bills to be paid on time. But I still think three hacks in one year is just not good enough and I feel TT haven't learnt a single thing from the previous hack... The free credit monitoring ALERTS on offer for a year are not the same thing as the free credit report for life. They offer access to your credit report for life free. The alerts service which Talktalk is offering (emails sent to you whenever your name is used to apply for a loan or credit card) isn't a free service from Noddle. It costs £20 a year.
