Ali has Kohli caught at slip for 167 and India are 351/5. It's 50 minutes into play this morning and the pitch shows no signs of wear so far.

something tells me any turn on this pitch is going to come very late and may be too late for England

India reached 455 all out

England struggled to get to 103-5 at the close

Bairstow and Stokes trying to drag England out of the mire this morning. A loooooooooooooong way to go though. 156/5 after the first hour.
Still trailing by 299.

191- 6 Lunch
But there's still a lot of hard wok to get even close to India's total which even on this pitch will need someone making a big score

England are deep, deep in the mire.
Despite all his wonderful batting over the last few years Joe Root has to take at least some of the blame in this match imo.
He ran Hameed out, then compounded it by getting himself out with a bloody awful shot last night.
When facing 455 in the first innings such mistakes can be very damaging. On a wearing pitch the task looks daunting for England I'm afraid.
Cook yesterday and Bairstow today were got out by good bowling.
The other dismissals were poor.
I thought Geoffrey Boycott's summation of England's day two batting was pretty much spot on. Let's hope Stokes and the lower order can stay in a while and frustrate India.

Stokes was given out LBW. But they failed to pick up an inside edge.

However the edge had been snaped up at slip so he was out anyway. bladewave

255 all out.
India decide to bat again.
7/0.

India close the 3rd day on 98/3. Quite a spirited performance by England in the field, and good runs from Stokes and Bairstow earlier, but as in the tests in Bangladesh England are struggling in the match due to the failure of their upper order batting.

It probably now needs s good batting performance from a top order batsman to prevent England sliding to a defeat or produce a miracle victory
Currently 182 - 8 India a lead of 362
