Joe Root won the toss for England at Brisbane and chose to bat first. There are a few dark clouds around, but Root never considered putting Australia in.

A very even day I would say Aussies getting two wicket after tea and brought them back their way a bit. would think anything within 375 - 450 would be a good total for us and feel Vince & Stoneman would be abetter opening pair and dropping Cook to 3 would work better in future tests.

^ Cook is a world class openning batter, where as both Stoneman and Vince are still trying to find their feet.
It's usually unwise to use two newbies to open and innings especially when they are both right handed.

I've always said that Vince's batting style could suit Australia, where there is less sideways movement but more bounce.
So it's no to Vince openning, but yes to Vince becoming a fixture at 1st wicket down.

I don't see the point in having Bairstow coming in at 7. Would rather see him up at 5 and bring Jos Buttler in to keep wicket, and bat at 7, or when Stokes comes back at number 8.

Decent start from England but second morning is crucial. Whatever the result of this game I think will be the series result.

It was looking good for England at 246/4 but in the end the total was only 302 all out after Australia's bowlers had a great morning. Time now for England's bowlers to make their mark.
