Difficult to watch some of the footage on the news Sad

Absolute tragedy for all those involved.

According to MSN, it's all Mays fault, you'd think they'd concentrait on other things, erm, like the victems.

Got to be more than 12 in that.

No doubt, there are some SERIOUS FAULTS to be found.... No fire alarm went off nor there were any water sprinklers.

The fire alarm is the big thing for me if it had rung lives would have been saved.

Another question is... surely if it didn't go off automatically why didn't someone press the fire alarm button presuming they at least have that on every floor?

surely smoke detectors should have gone off in every flat too that would have woken up everyone to begin with If there are more deaths from this with those in hospital then Kensington council has a lot to answer for this will dwarf any scandal that the council ha ever been involved in and surely lessons CLEARLY haven't been learned from the last tower block fire

Bloody muppet of a shadow housing minister more concerned about blaming tories even when put to him in 1999 was a goverment report about the dangers of using cladding on outside of building he said cladding is safe Muppet then went onto bashing the tories some more. would labour be so quick to judge if it had been in one of there council areas the next one could be.

shouldnt be quick to blame and come up with the answers and pass them through parliament

This is the time for politicians to get together and sort out the problem
How many more buildings are a major fire hazard.

I notice that even our new fire station is clad in something which looks like plastic

There are going to be a lot of questions to answer about this awful event. It's always difficult in the immediate aftermath to know what is truth or rumour but there have been a lot of comments made which should stimulate lines of enquiry. Some that come to mind from the things I've heard on tv and radio would seem to be:

- the appliance (fridge?) that was reported to have exploded. Never heard of a fridge exploding so what caused it
-the tenant of the flat who one report says packed a suitcase before knocking on his next door neighbours door (I'm sure he never imagined what would happen)
- the fire extinguisher which seemingly did not work
- the advice to stay in flats
- the building regulations which allowed the cladding which may have been responsible for the spread of the fire
- the various governments that did not take heed it seems of the previous Southwark flats fire recommendations
-the local authority who it seems ignored the concerns of the residents association
-the architects who specified the work done on refurbishment last year
-the building contractors who carried out the refurbishment work
-the urban designers who it seems allowed fire service access to the tower block to be compromised
- fire safety officers who certified the building

there will be many more as well

I'm sure as is always the case people/organisations will in some cases try to cover their backs but we must get to the truth to prevent such a disaster ever happening again

It's not often that I will sit watching something on TV and shed a tear but I did yesterday.

I'm just watching the BBC News and one poor chap is describing how his brother is missing. They reported it to the police yesterday and they were not able to give him any news. He's checked again today with no news but has now seen a picture of his brothers body on social media. FFS what possesses these morons to film or photograph these things and post them. Absolute scum.

RE: London Tower Block Fire - Charlemagne - 15-06-2017 12:55

There's also the report about a past incident with the tower block action group spokesperson. Where the building contractors visited his flat and threatened him after he made complaints about the firms work

RE: London Tower Block Fire - SOCATOA - 15-06-2017 14:14

One report by a building safety advisor says that insulation between wall and cladding melted , and acted like a chimney for the fire to spread. It seems there were concerns about this makeover type renovation voiced a few years ago. No doubt there will be inquiries and reports and recommendations, in a few years time.
