RE: Scottish Football - mickster - 01-11-2012 15:51 Won't help the attendance figures .No big 'pay days' for clubs left in. RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 05-11-2012 21:57 Well done to the SFA for finally showing some balls and sacking Craig Levein, a disaster of a spell in charge leaving Scotlands name on the big stage in tatters. It was the only possible conclusion for me, I just hope whoever they bring in rejuvenate's the spirit of the nation again. Beating France home and away seems such a distant memory now but we need to get our pride back. It looks like Gordon Strachan is odds on favourite for the job but I wouldn't rule out a return for either Walter Smith or Alex McLeish. Craig Levein's name will forever be infamous as far as the tartan army are concerned as he will go down as being the worst Scotland manager of alltime. RE: Scottish Football - SOCATOA - 05-11-2012 22:51 Levien gets a £700,000 pay off, money for fuck all RE: Scottish Football - mickster - 06-11-2012 04:28 You could put anyone in charge and it won't make a blind bit of difference .Scotland simply don't have good enough players . RE: Scottish Football - HannahsPet - 06-11-2012 08:39 Steve Kean for Scotland seriously though what has happened to scottish football the range and depth of players has totally gone hate to say this but within 10 years will be a republic of ireland scenario when will be asking anyone with the slightest bit of scottish heritage if they wanna play for scotland RE: Scottish Football - scots1920 - 06-11-2012 09:10 (06-11-2012 04:28 )mickster Wrote: You could put anyone in charge and it won't make a blind bit of difference .Scotland simply don't have good enough players . I'm sorry but you're completely and utterly wrong. The players available to Levein are better than their recent performances suggest. Your claim that no manager could possibly do better seems a bit detached from reality. So when did Scotland last qualify for a world cup or euro tournament then? I rest my case. RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 06-11-2012 17:25 On paper Scotland last qualified for a major tournament for the World Cup in France 1998 but have come very close on a number of times since then but only to fall at the last hurdle. Let's go back and I'll mention them. Euro 2000 - Lost to England in a 2 legged play off. Ist Leg - Scotland 0 - England 2 2nd Leg - England 0 - Scotland 1 World cup 2002 finished Third in our qualifiying group behind portugal and Belgium. Euro 2004 - Lost to Holland after a 2 legged play off. 1st Leg - Scotland 1 - Holland 0 2nd Leg - Holland 6 - Scotland 0 World Cup 2006 finished 3rd behind Italy and Norway in our qualifiying group. Euro 2008 - Also finished 3rd behind Italy and France despite having achieved victorys over both most notably winning 1-0 in France. World Cup 2010 - Also finished 3rd behind Norway and Italy. Euro 2012 - Once again finished 3rd behind Czech Republic and Spain. In summary Scotland have been very unlucky in recent years and have not been blessed with any easy qualifying groups. What makes this qualiying group all the more painful is that after many a bastard of a group Scotland actually had a genuine chance of making it through. Craig Leviens sacking was more than justified. He did a brilliant job as a club manager which he served Hearts and Dundee United so well but has made a total pigs ear when it has come to the national team. Scotland have a decent team and the blame should lye soley on the shoulders of the manager, Gordon Strachan to me or Walter Smith/Alex Mcleish will certainly turn around the fortunes. Nobody can do as bad a job as Levein has done. Even Beri Vogts record stands up better. RE: Scottish Football - mickster - 06-11-2012 20:12 On paper or on the pitch Scotland are now considered to be one step away from being classed as a "minnow" i.e. on par with Iceland,San Marino,Faroe Isles etc.The cold hard facts of the matter are the players are 3rd rate and have been for over a decade.. RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 06-11-2012 23:31 You need someone with great man management skills like Jim Jefferies to turn the team around. |
