Yorkshire demolished Derbyshire by an innings & 204 runs. Although the match finished early afternoon on day 3, in terms of actual over it amounted to less than 2 days of cricket. Some great performances, a maiden first class century from James Wharton, on pitch where batsman had struggled, he brought up 3 figures off only 101 balls & was eventually dismissed on 188, Tattersall reached his own century today. The 6th wicket partnership of 241 was a record against Derbyshire. Vishwa Fernando had 9 wickets in the match, Ben Coad took 6-30 today & looked to have been robbed of a hattrick when his lbw appeal was turned down.
The defeat of Middlesex by Leicestershire has put a different complexion on the promotion race, as Yorkshire move within 4 points of them in 3rd. Sussex have 5 wins already & will take some catching, they meet Yorkshire next at Scarborough. Both teams will be confident, it is a pity they will have to wait until August 22nd thanks to the ridiculous scheduling.

Three matches with absolutely fascinating climaxes.

Somerset chased down 410 to beat Warwickshire in 91.4 overs with Tom Abell finishing 152 not out and his team victorious by 5 wickets.

Hampshire stormed to victory against Kent by walloping their bowlers all over the place in hunting down the target of 179 within 22.1 overs eventually reaching 180/4 to win by 6 wickets.

Gloucs v Glamorgan still going on.
Epic drama at Cheltenham Surprised.

^^ Depending on sources this is already the 3rd highest 4th innings first class total by Glamorgan.

Crazy stuff, a wicket off the final ball, match tied. Glamorgan miss out on a World record first class run chase. Glamorgan 592 all out

Crazy but bloody brilliant for entertainment I bet and one for scoring purists too.

^^ Tied matches are as rare as hens teeth, but I was willing a World Record chase from Glamorgan. It was sort at it's best pure theatre. Late in the day as the 10th wicket partnership edged ever closer the most confident appeals saw practically the whole Gloucestershire team celebrate, only for the umpire to be unmoved. The final act was the Bracey one handed catch with his gloveless hand as he had discarded one glove in anticipation of a run out opportunity making a shy at the stumps easier with the one run required for victory. In many way a fair & fitting climax with no side deserving defeat, the way Gloucestershire celebrated reflected that, after looking favourites to win, & then staring at defeat.
I felt as if I was about to witness history in the making, & almost felt a little bit robbed despite it being one of the best Championship matches I've ever watched, at least in terms of a neutral supporter, I can only imagine the emotion of the fan of both teams in the final overs of the match.

RE: County Cricket - Doddle - 04-07-2024 14:08

Jimmy Anderson had a heroic 7 wicket blast in Notts' 1st innings, but couldn't do much with their 2nd, so Lancs ended with a draw.
