RE: Liverpool FC - Fernandez Esperenda - 02-07-2013 23:11 And this is where I dont understand Rodgers sometimes, I understand why he sell carroll because 35 million is a lot of money for a plan B player but 2million on a Plan B like Fred is sensible, he is an all round better finisher too than Carroll is aswell. Rodgers He is try to play like Barcalona and Spain but now teams like Bayern and Dortmund convincingly destroy Barca and Madrid in CL and Brazil take apart Spain who all have no strength in the team. Bayern have Gomez & Mandzukic Dortumnd have Lewandowski, Both are out and out Strikers, we should not just buy the same type of player over and over. I thought he might have learn when we were beat by teams like Stoke, Oldham, West Brom, and struggle against Mansfield, all teams who play agressive football with strength. If we improve on last season or win a cup then fair enough for Rodgers but if we finish same or worse then I dont think he has many excuses because FSG are giving him the money. RE: Liverpool FC - groundnpound - 02-07-2013 23:58 The way Rodgers likes to play originates from Holland, Ajax in the 60's. Total Football. Johan Cruyff took it to Barcelona in the 80's. It's Dutch, the Spaniards just adopted it. In Total Football, a player who moves out of his position is replaced by another from his team, thus retaining the team's intended organisational structure. In this fluid system, no outfield player is fixed in a nominal role; anyone can be successively an attacker, a midfielder and a defender. The only player fixed in a nominal position is the goalkeeper. Total Football's tactical success depends largely on the adaptability of each footballer within the team, in particular the ability to quickly switch positions depending on the on-field situation. The theory requires players to be comfortable in multiple positions; hence, it places high technical and physical demands on them. During this era Ajax played some of their finest football ever, achieving home wins (46–0–0) for two full seasons (1971–72 and 1972–73), just one defeat in the whole of the 1971–72 season, and celebrating five titles in 1972 (the Netherlands national league, KNVB Cup, European Cup, European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup). In my opinion, Barcelona and Spain are still the two best teams in the world. When Guardiola left, Barca stopped pressing the opposition the way they used to. For all the skill and talent they've got, their pressing to win the ball back was what set them apart. They lost that a bit last season, even though they won the league. Same goes for Spain. They didn't press Brazil or Italy in the semi, they looked shattered to me. So they lost and looked poor. If they can both get their intensity back, their non stop pressing, they'll be back to their best again I reckon. Rodgers spent years in Holland and Spain learning his trade, picking up his football philosophy along the way. He got last season to lay the foundations, he brought some exciting football and players to Liverpool. He'll expect his team to kick on this season with some new faces, to score more goals, keep more clean sheets and to win more matches. As a supporter, i expect the same. Cant wait til the season starts. RE: Liverpool FC - groundnpound - 03-07-2013 00:14 We've sold Jonjo Shelvey to Swansea for £6m by the looks of it. Quality young player. Thought he'd have been loaned out this season, not sold. RE: Liverpool FC - Master Yoda - 03-07-2013 12:04 He's a divisive character is Jonjo isn't he gnp?? Some reds rate him and others don't. I'm in the latter category. Don't think he has the ability to reach the very top but might do well in a mid to lower end Premier League side. Never saw him in our team if we really wanted to get back in that top 4. Still, i'd stick a buy back clause in the transfer just incase!!! Carra said the other day we'll sign another 3 or 4 players. This the lad you were thinking of gnp mate?? RE: Liverpool FC - groundnpound - 03-07-2013 12:38 That's the very man! Thought I was the only one who grew up watching the flintstones for a bit there.... Top lad Yoda. I like him, he's a talented lad. Got goals in his locker, good striker of the ball, takes a good free kick. Good vision. Not scared of a tackle either. Plus, he told whiskey nose where to go! Should have kept him just for that. Thought we might have loaned him out for a year. He'll develop into a cracking player for me. He lacks a bit of pace but apart from that I can't really fault the lad. His attitude when he was dropped down to the rezzies was brilliant as well, led by example. RE: Liverpool FC - mitchell - 03-07-2013 20:46 I like Jonjo but I think Rodgers is looking at Jordan Henderson's progression from last season & thinking he's got more of an all round game to offer, I kind of agree somewhat. Jonjo will of gained a lot of respect from managers & coaches with his attitude from last season as it shows hunger, something I've not seen much of since Damian Duff left Chelsea. I think it's a very good career move & will help him progress into a better & possible future England player. I'm pretty sure I heard a commentator in the Confed Cup say Fred's just signed for Shakhtar? Can't believe I missed the chance of the Barney Rubble joke, quality. RE: Liverpool FC - Fernandez Esperenda - 03-07-2013 20:58 Jordan henderson is a good player for us, he puts everything in and is not scared of a tackle, he will only get better i do not see where joe allen will fit in now we have coutinho, alberto, henderson, gerrard, lucas, suso... I would rather have kept shelvey and get rid of allen. I see what shelvey was about, he was like henderson, but allen I do not see what he does? And mitchell there is another Fred who signed for Shakhtar, he played for Gremio RE: Liverpool FC - groundnpound - 03-07-2013 21:38 He was like Xavi in disguise at the start of last season Joe Allen, breath of fresh air he was. Lost his form and his confidence badly though! Played with an injured shoulder for ages and it held him back, apparently he was only 65-70 % fit most of the year. Was the man Rodgers wanted most last summer, remember him saying he'd have paid millions more than the £15m he did for him. Hopefully see the real Joe Allen this season. |
