RE: World Cup 2018 - southsidestu - 04-07-2018 08:13 The ranking system is based on a points system and is set to be updated after this world cup so it will be interesting to see where the teams will end up. It will certainly take into account that England will have progressed to the Semis at I am sure England will see a big jump in their ranking. It also takes into account strength of opposition which will work against England considering they find themselves in a half of the draw with Croatia, Russia & Sweden as opposed to Brazil, Uruguay, Belgium & France and 2/3 of their previous wins came against the 51st & 54th ranked teams It's amazing to think that one of England, Croatia, Russia & Sweden will be in the final, good if your an England fan as it has to be the easiest run in for many a tournament bad for a neutral because we wont get a glamour tie final but with this world cup maybe who knows RE: World Cup 2018 - HannahsPet - 04-07-2018 10:29 England vs Brazil not a glamour tie ? Another Salty Scot comment RE: World Cup 2018 - Bandwagon - 04-07-2018 10:57 If Scotland, Wales or Ireland were in this World Cup and England wasn't, I would support them 110%. I certainly wouldn't be neutral if Scotland were playing a South American team The same as I support Andy Murray in tennis for example. RE: World Cup 2018 - HannahsPet - 04-07-2018 11:03 Exactly supported scotland in 90 and all the times they qualified for World cups well unless they played england Supported wales and NI in Euro 2016 Think every england fan was supporting the republic in 94 WC RE: World Cup 2018 - Rammyrascal - 04-07-2018 11:10 Loved the commentator kiss of death on Jordan Henderson’s penalty in the shootout as soon as they said “he’s scored in a shootout” I said to myself “he’s going to miss now” RE: World Cup 2018 - Charlemagne - 04-07-2018 11:54 I didn't understand why Henderson, Trippier and Dyer took penalties and a fairly fresh striker in Jamie Vardy didn't. It turns out that he has a groin injury and they switched the 5th penalty taker to Dyer. Vardy is a doubt for the Sweden game RE: World Cup 2018 - southsidestu - 04-07-2018 11:55 It's been 20 yrs since Scotland last qualified for a major tournament & I'm 29, the time for being salty about Scotland not qualifying ended over a decade ago, it is very much the norm for me. I have nothing against the England team, I like a lot of the players in the squad and Gareth Southgate seems like a decent man, he has the personality of wet cardboard but likeable non the less. I have also been pleased to see that unlike so many England managers before him and British managers in general, he has abandoned the time honoured tradition of defensive 4-4-2 and gone for a pressing 3-5-2 formation. England impressed me last night with their mental resolve, they came back into the game in the second half of extra time after a sucker punch of an equaliser and being under the cosh in the first 15 mins after and to win a penalty shoot out. What I do not like and what makes it so hard to support England is just the shitstorm of bipolar disorder that surrounds the team from The Media and fans. If England do even a little bit good they go on forever about how great they are, if they do bad they gone forever about how shit they are. When England beat Tunisia a team ranked nearly 40 places below them by one goal scored in added time it was dubbed an exceptional performance, when England failed to qualify for the Euros after being beaten by Croatia in the last game which had they won would of seen them go through it was a national disaster, pundits were claiming that everything from the youth system to the entire coaching structure needed to be completely dismantled and started from scratch. None of which would of been the case had England qualified which they very nearly did, it's either Category 5 Euphoria or Category 5 shitstorm England are in the quarter final, my dad always says let the football decide and going on that they deserve to be but so far England have beaten 51st & 54th team in the World, lost to the team ranked above them and beaten a team on the same level without creating any really solid chances in 120 mins of open play, forgive me but a team with that record going up against the greatest team in International Football history who has won 5 times as many world cups does not excite me as a final as opposed to Brazil vs a France that played they way they did against Argentina. If England put in a performance like that against someone other than Panama then i'll get excited RE: World Cup 2018 - Snooks - 04-07-2018 16:27 http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11426115/diego-maradona-says-colombia-suffered-a-monumental-robbery-against-england RE: World Cup 2018 - Bandwagon - 04-07-2018 16:44 Probably keeping his Columbian drug dealers sweet for all that candy he shoves up his nose RE: World Cup 2018 - cwpussylover - 04-07-2018 17:48 (04-07-2018 11:54 )Charlemagne Wrote: I didn't understand why Henderson, Trippier and Dyer took penalties and a fairly fresh striker in Jamie Vardy didn't. Vardy just doesnt seem to fit in...headless chicken, failed to score a sitter (even if off side) Henderson telegraphed a shit penalty...Tripper should of saved the goal (did he even jump? but why was the smallest man on the pitch on post duty??)...however he played well and took a ballsy great penalty...Dyer was Dier throughout game, missed a free header (that stones would of netted) and the keeper got a hand to his penalty...thank fuck it went in.... Great tournament ...up there with Italia 90 and Euro 96...lets hope we can go 2 better....anyone who says otherwise is a jealous sour puss and should just fuck off and die in a corner |
