The government are talking about further measure.

Let's hope that the numpties at least make the wearing of face masks compulsory again in shops, bars and restaurants.

So this is how I see it:

You have to wear a mask in shops and on public transport.

The new measure is when arriving in the country where you have to take a manditory PCR test after day2 and you have to self-isolate until they provide a negative test. So it will probably be about 5 days before you can leave home (apart from having to drive 20 miles to delivery your PCR test to the nearest drop off point).

They never should have allowed caution to slip back in the summer, with all that ‘freedom day’ horseshit and the false optimism around it.

It was hard enough to get people to behave responsibly the first time, and even then it was patchy at best. We absolutely should be masking up again — I never really stopped — but I really can’t see it happening at this stage.

Everyone (including the Govt no matter what BJ says) became so complacent after the first two major waves. Viruses mutate - it's what they do, so it can't be that much of a surprise that this damn thing would peak and then subside and start all over again.

I get the argument that says you can't close down forever, but look at the numbers again, well above 100 deaths in the last two 28 day counts! When that was the case before, we know what happened! Unless - as I indicated was my view in a previous post - BJ et al see these deaths as unfortunate yet unavoidable! That was unforgivable before, this time it would be criminal!!

Obviously - as yet - there is no developed vaccine against this variant from africa, so I do hope that this time the govt act promptly and go all in with the restrictions the advisors tell them to take!!

No more messing around with imploring people to get vaccinated. Force their hands in no uncertain terms. Benefits, Passport/citizenship withdrawal (certainly in terms of the benefits of being a citizen) - frog marching under police escort to get the vaccine (no more free choice crap) whatever the hell it takes this time.

Assuming that the person who brought the strain in to the UK was a resident in africa, then did they know they had it?? If it was someone who left the UK when restrictions were eased, and returned, we should ask why those restrictions were so lifted, as I think I am right in pointing out, the virus was known to be worse there than here?? Nobody knew necessarily that there was at any point a new variant which could be caught, but we did know that the situation was not good. Still the govt eased travel restrictions

I hope that those within the field of infectious disease are right when they say there is no reason to believe that this new variant will lead to mass deaths and an uncontrolled environment within the NHS. The recent updated figures, would suggest a more disturbing possibility!!

A return to compulsory mask wearing on transport and in shops is a start as a tougher measure, but Goodfella is right that those restrictions shouldn't have stopped in the first place. Removing the restrictions just gives selfish people another chance to stick two fingers up at those of us that do care. The Freedom Day shit was another example of clownish phrases that BJ and this govt have come up with to scramble through and cover up the mistakes.

I worry too that people have let attitudes lax so much that it will be difficult to get them to conform to the rules again now. Bottom line is - this has always been a war. People need to work towards achieving a common goal which means we have to work together. This country is fighting the most dangerous enemy it has ever faced. Mandatory vaccines should be next. That has to be the same attitude of everyone in every country.

I've pretty much felt like shit since my second jab but it has to be done to protect others and for the good of the country. I booked my third jab booster as soon as I got the text message; it annoys me that others still seem dismissive to the point of doubting this thing is even real. annoyed

And do what exactly? Publicly humiliate them? Declare them as a modern day Typhoid Mary?

The poor Sod who did bring it in probably had no idea they were infected and would have been allowed into the country like anyone else has been since July.

But hey, lets get the pitchforks out!
