Congratulations to The Saints for winning the Superbowl,i have to admit after the first quarter i thought it was going to be a blow-out,but the way they came back in the second and third quarters was impressive,and in the end they were worthy winners.
The decision to do an on-side kick at the start of the second half was a ballsy call by Sean Payton,and for me that was the key moment,because it allowed The Saints to maintain the momentum from the second quarter.

big congrats to the saints. the first quarter it did look like the colts would win but the saints were the better team for the rest of the game and the onside kick at the start of the 2nd half was very ballsy but it paid off and when they intercepted manning to kill the game off i punched the air in delight

I think most neutrals were very happy with the result. Over the years they were so bad they were called the aints and a lot their fans wore brown bags over their heads so people could not recognise them. Combine this with hurricane Katrina and you see how much adversity the people of New Orleans had to go through.

At least I hope not! I can honestly say that I wasn't too bothered who won the Super Bowl this year. The Saints have been historically bad - just ask the Manning family! In fact I vividly remember reading a piece in an NFL programme that a friend of the family brought back from the States when I was a kid about the reaction of fans to Archie Manning being traded to the Vikings - the image of men almost crying in their beer on Bourbon Street because 'the saviour had not survived' after more than 10 years of yeoman service with a best record of 8-8. In fact I'd be hard pressed to think of any player who was so loved by fans despite the lack of success as Archie Manning was/is by the people of New Orleans. Maybe Gale Sayers in Chicago but I think the Bears weren't as bad as the Aints during his all too brief career? I'm really struggling to think of anybody like Archie Manning.I really don't want to appear to be curmudgeonly towards the Saints or the good people of New Orleans - it was really a chance to have a go Bush over New Orleans and rail against the injustice of cruise ships docking on Haiti for watersports and barbecues on the beach at a secure guarded peninsula when tens if not hundreds of thousands of people are in dire need on other parts of the island. I make some fairly odd posts!
I think the Saints are hugely entertaining to watch. They are explosive offensively, they play attacking/gambling/reckless defence and are a beloved part of the city. I don't think they would pack up and move out in trucks in the middle of the night like a certain team did from Baltimore all those years ago to go to er, Indianapolis. I'm not such a stick-in-the-mud that teams can never move but there are ways of doing it and how Indianapolis got the Colts from Baltimore wasn't good. I just thought that the Colts were the better team on paper but the NFL is played on turf so you never know...
Sure that Mardi Gras will be spectacular in New Orleans this year and the team (from Tom Benson, Sean Peyton, Drew Brees to the people who do the important jobs like cleaning the stadium and cutting the grass at the training facility) and the people of New Orleans can rightly celebrate a great triumph. Don't think they'll defend the title though... always got to look ahead because the NFL also stands for Not For Long!

I remember that NFL not for long crack. It was Jerry Granville whilst atlanta when having a pop at the ref saying NFL "stands for not for long when you make calls like that"!laugh! apparently they are very close friends now believe it or not.
The Manning's must be a very proud family there is apparently another brother who was all American receiver but had a career ending injury at College. It is amazing that all three of the Mannings first touch down passes were 6 yard passes talk about the genetic pull.
I think the Steelers will be a force to be reckoned with next season. It was great to see two number one seeds in the final even if they were not as hoped two unbeaten teams going into it.

It certainly was the man in black with the not for long crack. I wasn't sure whether it was in his days with the Oilers but it probably was the Falcons when they'd changed to black uniforms? Glanville and some of his teams were hated, I recall Sam Wyche running the score up against the Oilers by kicking a field goal when leading 58-7 just to rub Glanville's nose in the dirt (and his face and the rest of him presumably if he could have!). I actually liked Houston when he had them using the run and shoot offense with Warren Moon at the helm because they were exciting to watch...aaah. Reminiscing about the NFL - the forum has such diversity!
The Bengals season? Maybe but I think they had their shot this season and ran out of steam. Has Palmer got a full season at full strength in his arm? Was impressed by the defence this season - if you've got a good defence then you're always in the game and though you might lose (they scored more than you when the clock reaches 00) you rarely get beaten (lose by 2 touchdowns or more). Let's see what happens in free agency...

I just think that the saints victory shows what a great breeding ground England is(Peyton coached Leicester) for future super bowl wining coaches. I think the NFL will be scanning all over Britain desperate to unearth the next super bowl caliber head coach
