Out of curiosity I looked this up and your suggestion isn't close. Since the £72.50 fee was established the annual recovery of the costs of providing passports has been reported to Parliament as follows: 2013/14 - 118% cost recovery 2014/15 - 113% 2015/16 - 116% 2016-17 - 131% The passport office are therefore making money out of us, as you stated, but nowhere near the amount that you were suggesting. RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??) - HannahsPet - 22-03-2018 14:17 We are going to need to money to hire more border staff because everyone from EU will now have to be checked RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??) - schvall - 22-03-2018 16:45 (22-03-2018 14:17 )HannahsPet Wrote: We are going to need to money to hire more border staff Yes another 5,000 border staff will be required - this information already given to Parliament last year. Depends on the exact nature of the eventual Brexit deal though, the 5,000 is a worst case scenario. Same thing applies to EU countries too - the Netherlands has already announced that it's taking on another 750 border staff because of Brexit. Hi That is a lot of profit but if we need to hire more border staff then the profit on the passport will offset the cost of the additional staff perhaps. Either way it is unfair on the person who requires a passport RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??) - The Silent Majority - 23-03-2018 13:44 All this 'outrage' over the passport contract is bullshit on so many levels. In the new post Brexit 'golden age' where we're trying to sell our goods and services across the world we'll be hoping to be treated fairly and get the business on merit. And yet, when the position is reversed, it's somehow wrong? And there's no reason the passports have to be substandard just because it's cheaper. It's not like they're being made in some third world country using sweatshop labour. The savings could be in efficiency, or De La Rue thought they were a shoo-in for the contract and tendered accordingly (because no British company has ever ripped off the taxpayer... ) British goods and services should be as good as anything in the world. They should aspire to be the best in the world. But it's not a divine right. Baring in mind that the allegations state that they were working in conjuncture with Cambridge Analytica so using there algorithms they would know which people to target: swing voters and the undecided Are you saying that 21 adverts a day on 7m suggestable individuals had no affect whatsoever? RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??) - HannahsPet - 25-03-2018 06:52 how many look at the ad's on facebook anyway. and how many of us switched off during the campaign. even if it did shows that facebook ads are great for business i mean how many ads could you have got for that 9million the govt spent on that fucking leaflet that ended up in the BIN of most households funny thing is during obama's 2012 re election they used the same system but no one was up in arms. its only cos it was the Right did it that they are spitting those dummys out RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??) - lovebabes56 - 25-03-2018 09:40 And are we the public who voted in the referendum the only REAL losers in this whole debacle? |
