Why?

Van Tam was only on secondment from Nottingham University. Chances are he only stayed on as long as he did because of the pandemic.

And yet Scotland is set to peak at a lower infection rate than England...

I'm not a fan of Piers Morgan, but I thought this was worth reproducing.

ONS study shows that the infection rate was 1 in 15 in week ending 31/12.. That is the highest their survey has ever shown and is around 3.27m people infected.

Let's just be a bit cautious about heralding a victory as some on here seem keen to do. With that much infection the chances of another variant emerging are significantly higher. Thankfully hospitalisations and deaths are not as bad as they were 12 months ago BUT those suffering the most are the unvaccinated and there are a lot of those who have had no vaccine or not yet had the booster.

you cant know that as that number will not be around until the end of next month so you are guessing,
also it will have to be adjusted to take into account the longer period of time a higher number of people have it due to scotlands longer build up to the peak, this it what the modelling people are talking about,
if i had to guess i think there will not be very much in the 2 different overall percent of people who get serious illness from the 2 different ways of dealing with it,

Scotland is on course to peak at under 6%.

Against 7% in England.
