It's only peerages that have to go through a committee (the Appointments Commission). If approved the names then go to the Prime Minister who has the final say. Everything else, knighthoods etc, just go straight to the Prime Minister.

It appears that the HOLAC (House of Lords Appointments Committee) rejected 8 of Johnson's nominations.

Boris wanted Rishi to get involved and overrule the vetting advice from the committee. Rishi refused and since Boris has had a go at Sunak, Rishi has now gone public as to what happened.

Johnson has said this is all rubbish.

Who are we to believe more as to who is actually telling the truth on this one?
