Top of the Pops opening titles: tx. 29th April 1971.
This has to be the weirdest and mildly funniest TOTP titles in its history. Look out for the dodgy looking bloke who looks like he's running away from the fuzz and the archive footage of a car rolling down a hill and crashing. Apologies for audio/visual quality and Jonathan King. laugh

There was a persistent urban legend that the characters included Master Bates, Seaman Staines, and Roger the Cabin Boy (the cabin boy was actually called Tom). The creator of Captain Pugwash, John Ryan, successfully sued both the Sunday Correspondent and The Guardian newspapers in 1991 for printing this legend as fact.

Ask the Family
Opening titles from the late '70s/early '80s. The theme tune is "Sun Ride" by John Leach. Notice that one of the silhouettes in the titles looks like if the dad's giving the daughter a 'back hander'! laugh And what's all this "sausage" and "tackle" talk on a teatime family quiz show? Big Laugh
