Australia would have taken that when put into bat yesterday morning.

Another dismal batting display by England, a total lack of application and bad shot selection, they really do go from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Will we ever get a closely fought test match. Will we ever get a match that goes into the 5th day Rolleyes

In truth England have not batted particularly well all series with odd notable exceptions.
Cook has got starts but not converted, Lyth has got out in the same fashion cheaply time and again.
Bell did well on his home ground but has done very little otherwise, Ballance had one decent 60 odd but other than that looked all at sea, Stokes had one decent game with the bat but has done little with the bat since and Buttler has done little either. Bairstow made 74 in Nottingham but not convincingly and was out cheaply today. Joe Root and Moeen Ali along with a bit of useful support from Stuart Broad have helped England eke out enough runs while the Aussies were even more dreadful with the bat than England have been.
The batting on both sides has been pretty awful imo with the odd exceptional innings here or there from the likes of Joe Root and Steve Smith.
Self inflicted dismissals by the truckload.
Still England have regained the Ashes and that is the most important thing I suppose.

I fear that the ashes win might paper over the cracks in this england team. Namely the continued ineptness of our top 3, the failure to put Moeen up the order and play Rashid too. If it was up to me after this series Lyth and Bell would not play again and Cook would be warned that unless he scores against Pakistan he is gone too. I cannot understand why Moeen does not bat at 5/6 he has the technique and the ability to bat for a long time.

During this series there's been lots of talk about the umpires not calling 'no balls' and only being picked up on a dismisal review.

When a wicket is reversed and the batsman is then given not out, is a run also added to the score ?

RE: Ashes series 2015 - Mellow - 22-08-2015 18:26

^ Yes. Since the 3rd umpire has little else to do, I don't see why he can't check every delivery as it happens and notify the on-field umpire immediately to signal when there is a no-ball. As things stand the batting side don't just lose the run for the no-ball, they also miss out on any potential runs from the extra delivery that has to be bowled.
