Could one of them explain the derivation of 'Teuter', spellings may vary, but it's supposed to be a derogatory word for non-scots? It's Teuchter (if in doubt, always insert a 'ch' ) I suppose it means something like 'country bumpkin', and it's used by Scots about other Scots, nothing to do with non-Scots. Our world doesn't revolve around you lot, you know Stick with it till the chorus RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - Carl-Gen X - 06-12-2018 19:52 A rainbow can only be seen in the morning or late afternoon, it can only occur when the sun is 40 degrees or less above the horizon. Because of the rotation of the earth, an object can be thrown further if it is thrown west. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 06-12-2018 19:54 Did you know that no-one knows who actually invented the idea of a fire hydrant because the patent for it was destroyed in a fire! Talk about irony! In the James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' Roger Moore is seen sitting on a Jet Ski on his way to meet the villain Stromberg. It was the first time anything like that had been seen on screen and later they became immensely popular. If you place a tiny amount of alcohol on a scorpion it will instantly go mad and sting itself to death. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - Carl-Gen X - 06-12-2018 20:00 1 in 8 Americans has worked in a McDonalds restaurant. The first product to have a barcode was Wrigleys Gum. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 06-12-2018 20:06 The first product seen on the newly created television station ITV in the 1950's was for Gibbs SR toothpaste. That's not the reaction you get if you pour alcohol over me..... But back to the James Bond jetski, I don't recall ever seeing one broken down to fit inside of a bag, other than in that movie? RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 06-12-2018 21:40 I am not sure it was, the one you could be mistaking it for was Little Nellie, the autogyro delivered by Q that arrived in three big suitcases in 'You Only Live Twice' I haven't seen that film TSWLMe for a while so I can't remember if it was in a bag or not-it might have been done for dramatic purposes-these secret agents and their gadgets. The Jet-ski featured was one that had some sort of chair fitted, smaller skis yet the newer ones had a padded seat, bigger skis and most people stood up and the front bit moved-the one Bond had was a fixed bicycle handlebar sort for steering. If anyone else knows different let us know. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - kelly1066 - 06-12-2018 21:52 IIRC ... JB asks the submarine captain for the bag that Q sent over for him, this big black zippered bag then being dropped off in next scene. JB then opens the bag & reveals the steering arm for the jetski, then the base; next scene has him zipping across the sea towards the marine observatory...? Little Nellie was in a different movie, as well as being a microlite, as i recall. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 06-12-2018 22:10 Definitely an Autogyro not a microlight Kelly. Microlights have a giant wing above it and steered by a bar, Little Nellie had rotors above and at the back like a minature helicopter. Ah okay, well a lot of this Bond stuff is from memory so if I was wrong then I once again stand corrected, but its been sometime since I've seen that (and I've got them all on DVD) |
