Well, UFC FN went just as i expected.

Palhares eh, what a bitch. Started getting moody because he couldnt catch Nate's leg and then claimed he oiled it....never liked Palhares anyways.

RE: UFC - CFCBLUE - 22-09-2010 15:49

First of all , thanks for all the information from all the contributers in this thread. I"m not the greatest UFC fan, but I do like to watch the Main Events on ESPN. I just got a couple of Questions for you guys.

1) Is there a top British current Champion in the UFC, or if there"s not who do you think could one day take a Title ?

2) Do they do Drug Testing in the Sport ?

3) Do any of you think this could be a possible Olympic Sport, maybe not in the near future but say 10 - 20 years time ?

Thanks.

Good post CFCBLUE, quizzical interested watcher, if not out & out fan, i like it, nice.

1) Is there a top British current Champion in the UFC, or if there"s not who do you think could one day take a Title ?
No there isn't a current Brit title holder, Dan Hardy fought Georges St-Pierre (GSP) for the welterweight title but was out done due to his lack of wrestling.
Personally i thought Ross Pearson would be the first Brit champ but he lost his last fight so that will set him back 2/3 fights. The best bets at the moment are Michael Bisping in the middleweight division if he wins his next fight against Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 120 in London 16th Oct then he may be 1/2 fights away although this remains a doubt as he is yet to prove himself against a top name fighter (I also feel the UFC show slight disrespect to him for some reason), but with the controversy surrounding No1 contender Chael Sonnen he may be in with a chance.
There's also John Hathaway 14-0 in the welterweight division who is coming along nicely his next fight is also at UFC 120 v Mick Pyle if he wins this he will shoot up the rankings closer to fighters like Thiago Alves & Jon Fitch, he is probably the most well rounded of the Brit fighters as he has a very good ground game & is one to watch not just as a Brit but a fighter in general.

2) Do they do Drug Testing in the Sport ?
Yes every fighter gets tested after his fight by the relevant State Athletic Commission, California, Navada etc. there has been a number of fighters caught out using both recreational & performance enhancing drugs, the most recent being Chael Sonnen who tested positive for PED after his title fight with Anderson Siva & this is an ongoing situation.

3) Do any of you think this could be a possible Olympic Sport, maybe not in the near future but say 10 - 20 years time ?
There's been a lot of talk about UFC president Dana White wanting mma to become a olympic sport, but i'm not sure it will happen for some years yet as mma's main organisation the UFC is still growing world wide so as you say 20 years maybe as the Olympics only come every 4 years. It probably will happen as most mma components are already there, boxing, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, i'm not sure about jujitsu.

RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 22-09-2010 18:03

Quote:Vitor Belfort is going to get his title shot just a bit sooner than he had anticipated.

The Brazilian had been announced in a number one contender’s bout against Yushin Okami for the main event of UFC 122 on Nov. 13. Belfort was pulled from the bout and MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday confirmed that Nate Marquardt would step in to face Okami on the card in Germany.

It quickly came to light Wednesday morning that the reason for Belfort’s removal from the bout was not due to injury.

UFC president Dana White cleared up much of the speculation surrounding the situation when he tweeted on Wednesday, “Vitor is not injured. He is going to fight Anderson for the title and the winner of Marquardt and Okami are next.”

Chael Sonnen had originally been the next opponent on tap for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva with most reports suggesting a Super Bowl weekend rematch for the two. Sonnen, however, tested positive for steroids and has been suspended for a year, according to the California State Athletic Commission.

The biggest question now is when middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend against Belfort. There has been much speculation that it could happen as soon as Jan. 1 at UFC 125, as the UFC searches for a suitable main event for its New Year’s Day event.

MMAWeekly.com sources said that the bout is currently is still awash in negotiations and hasn’t yet been finalized.

I can see why Belfort was pulled now that Silva/Sonnen 2 is off. Silva/Belfort is the most marketable fight and I guess it's on the same card as Edgar/Maynard as that on top wouldn't draw. Feel sorry for the Germans though.

Yeah this fight has been mooted since the Silva v Maia fight with people sayin Anderson needs to be in with someone who won't shit their pants once in the octagon & Vitor's name kept gettin mentioned but his lack of fight time since his last fight v Franklin Sep 09 was a factor.
I guess now is the time as people now know Silva can.. Almost be beat, but Belfort's 1 year out will be a problem in a 5 rounder, unless they stay standing which is most likley. It could/should be interesting.... I don't feel sorry for the Krauts!!!

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 24-09-2010 12:09

Well done on answering CFC's questions Mitchell Smile where would we be without you lad.
Agree bout Hardy m8.His biggest hurdle will always be GSP and i just can't see him beating the Canadian? But don't see anyone else doing it either so he's right up there in the welter div in my eyes. Smile
Bisping gets looked upon as the typical british brave warrior who just falls short of top class and i hate that. He'll get it right the next time he gets a title shot, said it for a while...Give him Silva!
On the Olympics..I can see it happening Smile With all the head gear and stuff of course! Why shouldnt they put it in there. It's got the lot!
And why btw in response to TDK'S post why is it automatically the winner if Marquardt/Okami that faces the middleweight champion??Why not even mention that the winner of Bisping/Akiyama as a possible to add some spice for both fighters in London???
Just something i would've done..even if it didn't come about.

RE: UFC - mitchell - 24-09-2010 14:55

I think if Bisping beats Akiyama he'll fight Wanderlei Silva (Returning 2011 following knee surgery) & the winner of that fight will face the Champion, Silva,Belfort,Mardquart,Okami depending on how these fights pan out with regards to rematches. I don't see Bisping fighting Maia or Munoz as these are ground fighters & Joe Silva won't match them up so from now till mid 2011 the top title challengers who are/may face eachother are all standup fighters.

It all depends on the two title & contender fights & Bisping winning which isn't gonna be easy, Akiyama is a black belt & 7 time Judo champion & 2002 Asia games gold medal winner + karate balck belt but he is the type of fighter that Bisping will want to fight.
I still have doubts on the UFC giving Bisping a title shot!!!
Middleweight rankings April 2010.
1. Anderson Silva – 27-4, 12-0 UFC
2. Chael Sonnen – 25-10-1, 4-4 UFC
3. Vitor Belfort – 19-8, 8-4 UFC
4. Nate Marquardt – 30-9-2, 9-3 UFC
5. Demian Maia – 13-2, 7-2 UFC
6. Yushin Okami – 25-5, 9-2 UFC
7. Wanderlei Silva – 34-10-1-1, 3-5 UFC
8. Yoshihiro Akiyama – 13-1-2, 1-1 UFC
9. Michael Bisping – 19-3, 9-3 UFC
10. Mark Munoz – 8-2, 3-2 UFC
Welterweight rankings March 2010.
1. Georges St-Pierre – 22-2, 15-2 UFC
2. Jon Fitch – 23-3-1, 13-1 UFC
3. Thiago Alves – 17-7, 9-4 UFC
4. Dan Hardy – 24-6-1, 4-1 UFC
5. Paulo Thiago – 13-2, 3-2 UFC
6. Josh Koscheck – 16-4, 13-4 UFC
7. Paul Daley – 23-8-2, 2-0 UFC (No longer in the UFC, how he got to No7 after 2 fightsbladewave)
8. Matt Hughes – 45-7, 17-5 UFC
9. Matt Serra – 11-6, 7-6 UFC
10. Diego Sanchez – 21-4, 10-4 UFC

This is probably the most competitive division in the UFC (As in most combat sports) so to guess possible matchups/title shots would be silly & the research takes too long & i do have a life to live...
Jon Fitch is the official no1 contender although this has been called into question by Dana White, for what reason i'm not sure.

Upcoming fights.
Matt Serra v Chris Lytle UFC 119 September 25, 2010
Dan Hardy v Carlos Condit UFC 120 October 16, 2010
John Hathaway v Mike Pyle UFC 120 October 16, 2010
Diego Sanchez v Paulo Thiago UFC 121 October 23, 2010
Jake Shields v Martin Kampmann UFC 121 October 23, 2010
Matt Hughes v BJ Penn UFC 123 November 20, 2010
GSP V Josh Koscheck UFC 124 December 11, 2010
Thiago Alves v John Howard ufc 124 December 11, 2010 (Not confirmed)

With the results of these fights obviously not yet know the ramifications for possible fights is endless with many other top fighters in the division aswell such as Anthony Johnson, Kim Dong-Hyun, Ricardo Almeida, Mick Swick just to name a few. GSP apart this is a very close division with some great fights to come, although on the matter of GSP i do think Koscheck is the fighter that will be the biggest challenge to him as they are pretty equal in every aspect of their game & fight outcomes, one possible being GSP is a black belt BBJ & i'm not sure what level Koscheck has?

Where indeed would we be without me groundnpound,Wink with all the research & corrections needed this post has taken me over 2 hours, what was it that i said.. "I do have a life to live" Rolleyes
