The oil might be in Scottish waters - but it's a British (ie UK) company that controls and runs it - British Petroleum as I mentioned above. It's not a case of wanting to keep us a part of the union because of the oil, surely it doesn't matter a jot where the oil is, I would have thought it's more important that it's a United Kingdom company that runs it - if Scotland are no longer part of the United Kingdom, then they will not and cannot claim majority bragging rights to an oil reserve which is their best shot at funding their independence. In fact if they vote for independence they'd lose most of that asset.

It's not about who runs the oil fields, it's where the tax goes.

So you have the Crude oil but you only have one refinery in grangemouth doing about 205,000 barrels a day and wasnt grangemouth on the verge of clousure because the company said it wasnt profitable took 11th hour deal with the scottish goverment to keep it open imagine if that happens again the company will have u over a barrel so to speak Wink

compared to the 6 the rest of the uk has 4 in england 2 in wales 5 of which do more than grangemouth between 220-300,000 barrels a day

Ok so you can sell the crude but its still got to be processed shipped to stations

the companies themselves still are london based and registered for UK tax where we get the duty from the petrol then tax from the profits of the companys

so we will still make the majority of the money from the oil because of the Refining and because the companies will be london based Wink

I wonder what happens to the Queen's assets - can you imagine the council tax bills she'll have to pay if Scotland does go it alone? Would she still be allowed to go up to Balmoral castle for her summer holidays, or would be the Scottish Government (that was in place in the event of a YES vote) force her to sell the assets in Scotland that she has to help pay for independence?
And would Kate & William go north to claim the throne of Scotland?

Nothing would happen to the Queen's assets in Scotland. The white paper on independence said that the Queen would remain as the head of state of an independent Scotland and her assets would be unaffected.

Sometime in the future an independent Scotland might want to become a republic, but that's hypothetical just now and a whole different ball game and such a change would probably need its own referendum.

Here's an article regarding Scotland's oil rights

She is still technically the Queen of Canada, Australia and a bunch of other Commonwealth countries, so Scotland shouldn't be any different.

I can imagine a bit of marital trouble though. She is married to the Duke of Edinburgh, after all.

...awwwwwwkwaaaaard...

So would the Queen have to give royal consent to the oil being part of Scotland's assets?
As for a Scottish navy how much would that cost to set up?

The other thing is Scotland would have to apply for IOC membership right?

If independence was to occur she would still be queen until Scotaland votes to becomes a republic. Was a debate on sky news what would she be called in scotland because she wouldnt be Elizabeth the 2nd because Mary Queen of Scots was on the throne at the time of Elizabeth I so more than likely she will become Elizabeth Queen of Scots. get the feeling when she passes on then im sure there will be a chance that scotland might try to vote to become a republic

About Wills and Kate When they announced the pregnancy of the 2nd kid Eck tweeted calling them the Earl and Countess of Strathearn thats there scottish titles
