Carlin crossed the line so normally he'd be out. Whether the Judges decide that Ota was already DQ'd before that thus making it irrelevant is another question.

Imo the shot put was the key event of the whole heptathlon for KJT.
She desperately needed a strong shot put to maintain momentum in the heptathlon.
Even more once Thiam produced a huge throw in the final round.
Bear in mind the previous PB for Kat was 13.92m. Final throw and it's massive.
14.44m. That could be a defining moment for Kat. A sensational performance and a huge boost to her confidence. Go Kat.
Just the 200m to go on day one.

Very good evening so far. That was a very exciting men's omnium, I like the drama, jeopardy and intensity you can get with cycling events.
Letsile Tebogo beats Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles in the men's 200 metres final. Gold for Botswana and a nice story aswell - dedicating his participation at the games to his late mother. A new African record and not far off the Olympic record. Terrific achievement.

A 48 point lead in the heptathlon overnight for KJT after the 200m.
A lot depends now on the Long Jump for Kat.
If she nails that then the likely damage of the ensuing Javelin can be restricted.
Nafi Thiam's Javelin throwing is pretty frightening.
Then it's all about the 800m.
If KJT can be within striking range of Thiam and in front of Anna Hall prior to the 800m then it could be OMG time.
But initially it's all about that long jump. Crunch time.
