Ofcom began playing the government tune to the hilt as soon as Sharon White disappeared for her new paypacket. Now they have been given new claws: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-51446665

The internet power grab has begun in earnest with this.

They certainly have got claws now for sure!! I can see the end of freedom of speech on social media if they don't get this right. Does this mean they can shut down the babe channels web shows without warning? It mentioned what China, (which I think we have known about their social media use for years), and what Australia and Germany have introduced in the last few year and now us, but doesn't mention penalties for social media giants in US or Russia.

I wonder how far the internet power grab in this country will go, I think there does need to be some sort of regulation of social media, but when most adults use the internet sensibly there does need to be a little freedom within for individuals to make their own choices of what they want to allow.

Funnily enough I haven't done GDPR's for a while now I think i did them last just before Xmas

Given what a farce the government made of Age Verification which in the end didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets dragged out for months & the powers get watered down.

The babeshow web shows won’t be affected by these new powers. These seem to be focusing more on social media.

Wouldn’t be surprised if another attempt is made at AV which would affect the babeshows online

If I am right I think I remember reading something yesterday that the Government has backed down against the tech giants

You miss the point. It's nothing to do with finances. The channels could never take on Ofcom unless they could show that they had some public support behind them. The reality is that nobody is willing to support the channels, or help them in any way, which makes any effort on their part completely futile. Ofcom will always say that the public is behind them and their policies and the channels have no way of proving otherwise.

Yeah I’ve read something similar

^Do we actually know if that is actually the case?

Ofcom have today, found Studio 66 "in breach", this "in breach" ruling is on top of the previous "in breach" rulings given to S66 not long ago.
Ofcom state that the previous in "breach rulings" are still the subject of ongoing sanction proceedings, and the new breaches are also serious enough for sanctions to be considered .

Because those channels are granted a licence as an entertainment channel while ofcom changed the babe channels licences to advertisement channels which have far more stringent regulations governing them. The babe channels were originally given an entertainment channel licence, but that was changed a number of years ago as far as i know.

Rob undoubtably knows that, he just can't believe it and he's not the only one.
