Swanny has undoubtably been one of our best bowlers over the last few years, but I'm staggered that he has made this decision in the middle of the tour ,it's just one disaster after another ! I'm sure he has his reasons whatever they may be but it's bad timing and the Aussies must be having a field day over there first Trott now swan.
I'm sure there will be more to follow once this tour is finally over , Kp for one perhaps. I think it's time for England to re-shape the team but they must maintain some balance between young players with big futures and the more experienced players, wholesale changes should surely be avoided !

England have a good side and there is no need for wholesale changes, Panasar is a good spinner, Bairstow or Buttler can take over the keeping duties and Root has the potential to be an excellent opening bat, Pieterson can then play at number 3.

From the Telegraph :
“Some people playing the game at the minute have no idea how far up their own backsides they are,” Swann said at the Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday. “It will bite them on the a--- one day and when it does I hope they look back and are embarrassed about how they carry on.”
Swann refused to name those he had in mind, but if he was referring to his own team, it is well known that he and Kevin Pietersen do not send each other Christmas cards. If other players have raised his hackles he has kept their identity to himself.
Now he says he is not talking about anyone in the locker-room. A bit of pressure to change his story maybe.
I suppose he will be doing more work on Radio 5 Live now - I always enjoy those shows.

No he wouldn't (obviously).
Why do you need to ask what seems to be a silly question? He said he was retiring because his performances have tapered off and because he was finding it difficult to bowl now with his elbow condition. Would he feel the same way if he had taken 20 wickets in this series? Clearly and obviously not, although because of his elbow he may still have retired at the end of this series anyway.

Just heard Shane Warne on SSN. Totally agree that Swann has been one of the best spin bowlers in recent years and we should be celebrating his achievements. However he went on to say it is disappointing all the muck that is being thrown around. Glasshouses Shane glasshouses!

No specific point just an observation, Swann was apparently plagued by his injury during the Ashes series earlier this year but bravely battled on, playing on the winning side and taking 20 plus wickets. He declares himself fit for the Australian tour and then quits halfway through when things are going badly, taking the time to slag off some of his team mates in the process.
But as i say just an observation.
