Speaking of Italian sportsmanship, I fondly remember Italy-Ireland in the quarterfinals of the 1990 World Cup.
Going into extra time with Italy leading 1-0 and killing out the clock with side-to-side passing. The Irish fans know it’s over and, in a lovely bit of camaraderie, start chanting I-TA-LIA, I-TA-LIA…
The Italian fans TRY to reciprocate, but realise mid-chant that they can’t pronounce the word ‘Ireland’.
There is something quite endearing about 50,000 fans screaming:
EYE-REE-LAND, EYE-REE-LAND…

When I first saw this I honestly thought it was photoshopped. Notice the likes of the Daily Mail haven't gone big with it, it's almost as if they sense it could be an own goal re Scottish independence.
