Yes let us compare a song that is written by Hendrix with people against Hendrix, slightly unfair do you not think? And in the comparison with the two Steves, SRV tries to make it his own too much and is trying to show off, so much so that he is barely playing the same song, Vai is doing a faithful representation of the song. And Vai gets huge props for singing at the same time, do you know how difficult it is to do that when you are playing some (pretty) complex stuff like that? And let us see Stevie Ray Vaughn trying some classical work like Vai can play. What do you mean he never did? Could he play classical...?

In regards to the Steve Vai issue - this wasn't started by brummie as a 'great guitarists' thread but as a thread for great guitar tracks. The song is what's important, not who's playing etc.

Absolutely, this doesn't have to be a competition for best guitarist just an appreciation of their work.

The bloke almost single handedly responsible for popularising Blues outside of it's own geographical origins (Mississippi and Chicago), and indirectly responsible for rock and roll as a consequence.

Plus one of many tracks which took rock and roll above ground.
