Instead I have the "vlc cone". Is this the same for everyone else or do you guys have preview images next to your mp4's? If so, what video codecs have you installed?

If you mean getting a preview showing up by holding the mouse pointer over the mp4, then no, I can't get that on mp4's. But for posting purposes, I use Media Player Classic to make a preview image up.

Yea thats what im wondering about, not holding the pointer over the file though, just having a small preview pic beside each file. Ill have around 20 videos in a folder and only 4or5 of them will be avi with preview thumbs, so its tough if your'e looking for a specific vid. But Ive also read that installing particular codecs will produce thumbnails for all kinds of mpeg video types, all to no avail.

Then it all depends on your operating system and codec's installed & the codec's used to make the video.

I have mp4's that will display in thumbnail view, and some that don't. As they are made with different versions of the mp4 codec. XVid, H264, Divx, and the standard mac version, all use an mp4 coding, but all display differently.

That's why I use details view of my video files.

I think i'll compare the codecs of those that display thumbnails and those that dont. And read up if installing those codecs will display thumbnails. Its not a big deal but its always at the back of my mind when looking through my foldersWink
