it's going to be unbelievable, i can't wait! my kids were a bit to young for the previous two movies so were going to watch them in the house before we go to the cinema for the final installment. should be fun!

Thats just how it is as the comics were the same way if you read the batman comics from the 40's to the modern day batman i.e the DC 52 comics through out the different decades batman's been every different. Part of the reason why the films are so different and serious was to do Batman Returns where that film was a darker, DC then toned it down with Batman Forever and then even more so with Batman And Robin where it panned for being to camp and jokey hence why the Batman films now are lot more serious in tone, days of it being less serious have long gone as its changed with the times and people just won't watch it like that. Long before the 60's version of Batman it was serious just not so dark in tone its changed with the times you'll even get the same thing with the new Superman when that comes out its gonna be a lot more serious then the Chris Reeves one its just the times we live in these days.

I never really enjoyed the 60's TV series of Batman. The first Keaton Batman was superb with its darker tones but keeping a sense of humour. Batman Returns was ok but the following ones were awful. For me it has been the Dark Knight trilogy that has really set the tone.
I love the darker and moodier look, acknowledging the fact that the hero has some serious psychological problems. It might be based on comic book stuff but that doesn't mean it can't be serious in places as well as entertaining.

the joel schumacher batman films lost that darkness which batman comics and films have. they became a joke. burton got the balance right same with nolan.
the dark knight rises reflects the world we are in now. also nolan prefers to try to have all the stunts shot in frame and have little cgi. the scene where bane escapes from the plane had no cgi where as the steelers stadium being destory was cgi.
i hope bale and nolan can do a fourth if not then i hope dark knight rises ends it well.

Not ususally my scene - the packed cinema on opening weekend, although the Early Bird ticket is (!) - but as my opportunities will be limited in the next few weeks, I was in time to get into one of the screenings this morning.
I certainly don't wish I hadn't, but this is just to let you know that we also serve who only like it a bit. Much like the first two, I found it excellent in places but just fairly good all round. My only true irritation was some of the sound. I've never done enough experimenting to see if my position relative to the screen affects how I hear the modern movie - some scenes that I see referred to as incoherent I've had no problem in picking up. This just happened to be one of those films where the film-makers' adherence to recreating "natural sound", no matter how potentially invasive the action might be, has meant that when it comes to the small screen, I'll need the subtitles for the subtleties.
