Just spotted a reference to the Online Safety Bill, which has been introduced in the House of Lords. A quick glance suggests optin internet filtering will become law.

"requiring access controls for programmes that are equivalent to an "18" rating or greater" might mean no access to overseas porn without a credit card payment (credit card=proof of age).

"In relation to soft and hard-core pornography provided from websites based overseas, providing the Authority for Television on Demand ATVOD the power to direct credit card companies to cease transactions if the services are not provided with suitable age verification."

Your favourite sane and rational regulator will be given new powers too "Clause 2: Role of Ofcom ... gives Ofcom a new responsibility to set standards in this area of media consumption. Subsection (1) requires Ofcom to set standards on filtering of adult content and age verification schemes and any other filtering schemes that are operated by ISPs or MPOs. The standards should be reviewed and revised from time to time."

No doubt they will concentrate on that most natural of things, naked women, and go easy on anything ethnic like money grabbing sleazebag fake religious sites, religious cults or religious extremism provided violence is not mentioned, because, hey, the Governments pet poodle would not want to be seen as a censor or in anyway intolerant.

The thought of Ofcom attempting a "routine monitoring exercise" of the internet amuses me though.

A pity the government does not put as much effort into ensuring that inadequate parents put filters on their kids computers and check what they do.

So would the above spell the end of babe channel web streams? and forums like ours? I have noticed that one forum I subscribe to I can't pick up on and youtube seemed to reset safety by itself when I looked it after signing in just wondering if I have to reset my providers' filters again!!

RE: Internet Porn Site Regulation - HEX!T - 21-11-2014 10:00

it affects everything mate not just porn. the filters are censorship nothing more. there using porn because its so emotive. but in reality it will censor anything they deem unfit.
when bt brought out there filter 1 of the subjects blocked was esoteric. esoteric can mean anything a thought and idea anything and because they used that word they can literally be forced to censor anything the government chooses.

honestly i dunno why there hasnt been more of a stink kicked up about this.
the web has been around for 20 years and was unregulated. why now? oh yeah because after 20 years private interest groups wanted it to happen.
it has nothing to do with porn in reality its all about perceived moneys lost due to piracy for the music industry and the fact people are switching from tv to the web for there entertainment. they can control what you see on tv but on the web they cant and this is what they want to change and will use protecting the kids to do it.

for instance you have probably already seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZsQKqwDU1k
with the western media claiming its meteor slamming into the atmosphere.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhFWLvczxqk&feature=youtu.be
but the same video taken from a different locations shows something slightly different a massive ground based explosion. but our media have pretty much ignored it.
this is the kind of thing that will be censored... ie the truth.

This doesn't really change anything, the age verification is already a requirement, all this does is make it a legal requirement.

As for this forum, it shouldn't make any difference. Firstly, it only applies to UK websites, and this forum is hosted in US (a case could be made against that similar to the ruling against Playboy after they moved their sites overseas). Secondly, it only applies to video-on-demand sites. It's unlikely this site would meet the criteria to be called a VOD site (it's not 'tv-like' and the forum itself mostly contains links to video files for download, or videos hosted elsewhere). The babevideo site may be closer to meeting the criteria, but it hosts video of performances on the channels, and I'm sure we can all agree that stuff is most definitely not R18 content!

RE: Internet Porn Site Regulation - lovebabes56 - 21-11-2014 18:44

I supposes we could see OFCOM try to shift the goal posts a little.

RE: Internet Porn Site Regulation - munch1917 - 21-11-2014 20:52

^^^ I guess one good thing about this is that this particular goalpost is now defined by law, that makes it much harder for Ofcom to move it. They can make their own regulations up as they go along, and change the parameters at will as they please, but the law is the law, and ultimately, the judges, not Ofcom will decide on its boundaries.

HARDGLAM - FINE

Ofcom has today fined online provider Hardglam £1,500 for failing to register with ATVOD and failing to put R18 content behind a paywall.

In mitigation the operator said he believed the request from ATVOD for a fee was a scam, and when he realised it was not had taken steps to disable the websites under referral pending the outcome of Ofcom’s sanctions process.

The sites operated were/are
