I see Ofcom have come in for criticism because of the necessary censorship of the show on Gold, the argument being that surely people would have known what to expect?

think it was for the 7:30 start that did for gold no way it could have been broadcast as is and couldnt really advertise is as a LIVE performance if it had been shown several hours later

the fact that was doctored was a bit of a let down but im betting the repeat figures for the non watershed version would have rised by a very high percentage

Caught up with this from the Tuesday repeat. I thought it was impressive stuff, a lot of good laughs, some nice surprises, some corpsing... fine Smile

Missed it Sad
Part of me kind of thinks Monty Python's not really a live show.
I kind of think it really works best as a film/TV thing with the surreal jumps between live action and the weird animation. It's not stadium-style stand-up imo.
Although some of the sketches they did in "The Secret Policeman's Ball" shows did actually improve in performance on some of the TV show originals, imo.
And yes they did do "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" ...

and turned it into Broadway and West End musicals...
and books...
and audio recordings...
...and basically any other format that would continue to make money out of 30-40 year old product.....
and I bought loads of it...(not the musicals though, have to draw the line somewhere).....
over and over again....
err....
argument collapses in logical contortions.Big Laugh

Gold are also doing a 5 part series later this year on Monty Python's best sketches and their enduring appeal.

bladewave OK it's on right now on Gold plus One and it's true what they say ... you can never go home again.

And it just reinforces my own image of myself as a sad bastard but :

The "Whizzo Chocolate company" sketch : "garnished with mouse poo" ?!!!!HuhannoyedeekImportantSad

garnished with mouse poo?!!! HuhannoyedshockedeekSurprisedRolleyesbladewave:

what was wrong with original "garnished with lark's vomit" ?!!!

do we have to dumb down because the young people today might not know that a lark is a bird and not a prank or a jolly jape?!

Why change it?
And why use "poo" for chrissake? Is this CBeebies ?

Monty Python is nearly always ALL about the words and language for me.
"Poo"? that's far too coy.
The young thrusting 60s Pythons in their prime would have used "shit" at the very least ?!

Oh dear, sad old man refuses to recognise the world has moved on.
(Is that me or the men on stage? probably both Big Laugh )

And OK corpsing is forgivable but some of the other delivery of lines seemed pretty by the numbers to me.

Maybe I should just retreat into the audio and video recordings so they remain exactly how I remember them. Cue Dustin Hoffman Rain Man .....Uh Oh
