RE: Athletics - Charlemagne - 27-08-2015 15:21 Usain Bolt wins the 200 metres to go with his 100 metres title. Is there no way to stop this man RE: Athletics - setter1000 - 27-08-2015 18:42 If only the England rugby team could tackle like that. Classic text book crash tackle. RE: Athletics - Charlemagne - 29-08-2015 09:54 Mo Farrow's running today in the 5000 metres final. I wonder who will try and trip him up this time RE: Athletics - Mellow - 29-08-2015 12:14 Great victory for Mo Farah to seal his 6th major gold medal. RE: Athletics - Charlemagne - 29-08-2015 13:14 Brillant performance from Mo. He looked a beaten man running down the home straight but found the energy to come back at the end Yet another change over cock up in the 100m RE: Athletics - Snooks - 29-08-2015 13:24 Farcical 4x100m relay. Cock ups galore with baton changing RE: Athletics - setter1000 - 29-08-2015 14:06 Apparently Farah's best 5000m time is only ranked 31st of all time and his best 10k time is ranked 16th. I know it's a chicken and egg situation but how does one establish greatness? Is it by titles they win or by world records set? Going by the former category he is certainly up there with the best of them. Was a debate on BBC wether he was greatest British sportsperson daley thompson says one of the best but he really needs to break a world record but if he can do double next year at Rio then maybe can be considered RE: Athletics - setter1000 - 29-08-2015 14:20 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I never saw that. I think if he completes a back to back Olympic 5 and 10k double he has to be considered certainly one of britains all time great athletes. I remember linford christie saying that it's easier to get a world record than it is to win a global title. You are in the form of your life you call up your agent and tell him to get you a race. With championships however you have to pull out a big performance when it matters not when it suits you. However I think to be considered a world great he needs to at least get close to the current world records. RE: Athletics - HannahsPet - 30-08-2015 06:03 Maybe it is harder to get a 100 metres title than a distance gold because of the comp. Mo seems to have come at a time where Ethiopa and Kenya are not so dominant in the long distance if he had come 5-10 years earlier would he have beaten the likes of halle gabriel selassie who broke 27 world records and olympic champion twice That said think mo is out greatest ever athlete if he was to do the double in Rio and then maybe try World record in marathon then. dont think he would ever break world records in 5,000 10,000 metres |
