By doing what Germany are doing by saying they will take 800,000 it only encourages more people to pay people traffickers to try and help them make the dangerous journey to reach European shores. As has been seen in the Mediterranean Sea once these people traffickers have their money they have no interest in the well being of their cargo, calliously leaving them to drown or if are lucky to be rescued by the authorities. I agree with Davod Cameron that if you are going to take refugees you take them from camps set up close to their country of origin, while providing aid to these and neighbouring countries and in the countries themselves where conflict rages s to try and provide a better long term solution

Yeah but we need to deal with the ones that have already made the damm journey or they will be trying to get back to turkey/lebanon to get back to camps falling into hands into traffickers to get back accross the med

This should have been done a year / 6 months ago when we knew people were trying to cross the fucking med in the first place thousands would still be alive

Far from doing nothing the UK is one the biggest donors when it comes to the Syrian crisis, we are second only to the USA, having given almost a billion pounds in financial aid, far more than any other european country. We have given massive amounts of medical supplies and emergency shelters and we have teams on the ground giving humanitarian assistance. In fact it is the rest of the EU who are doing nothing, despite what the BBC would like you to believe the majority of countries do not want to take in migrants and are simply letting them cross their borders so they can make their way to Germany, France, Sweden and the UK. Cameron has now agreed to accept 4000 syrian refugees, but what happens when the next wave arrives and the wave after that? do we simply throw the borders wide open and accept anyone who wants to move here?

I see Katie Hopkin has used this tragic event to spout her usual bile. Dont think you can get lower than a person that would use this event for personal publicity. Methinks its time for this piece of trash to be silenced.

Agree soc 100% nothing clearly is out of bounds for Katie to use for her own publicity

The BBC are the most biased right on lefties you can think off. So therefore there coverage will always be subjective
Agree totally in regard to letting them in. You do a kind turn for a few you than have to do a kind turn for everybody. The lotus affect so to speak.
I really would be interested to know how we are going to give aid to poorer Countries in 20 years time when we are over crowded, our resources stretched to the limit and don't have the proverbial pot to piss in. No doubt the lefties will be blaming the Tories for that as well.

Homing 4000 refugees shouldn't prove too difficult.

The archbishop of Canterbury has stated that we should do all we can to take in the refugees. Well he should be able to house half of them in his vast estate at Lambeth Palace.
And Nicola Sturgeon has also stated that more must be done. So she'd obviously be delighted to receive the other 2000 refugees.

While your there you might as well add Bob "saint" Geldof to the list apparently he has kindly agreed to house four syrian families in his london mansion. Also Emma " britain is a racist country " Thompson might like to help out by taking a few in herself, not forgetting Yvette Cooper, Andy Burnham and that other darling of the leftwing press Russell Brand. And last but by no means least Natalie " leader of the green party " Bennett who thinks we should take in quarter of a million refugees, perhaps she would like them all to move to Brighton where their only MP can take responsibility for housing them.

See Lilly Roma and some of the other babes have scrapped their wish lists and asked people to donate to the refugee funds instead?

Like fuck they have!

RE: Migrant crisis - brummie - 04-09-2015 22:37

The stark fact is this whole crisis has been brought about by the actions of western governments interfering in Middle Eastern and North African affairs. If you don't want refugees in your country don't support governments that like to bomb the shit out of other peoples. Of course Britain has a large share of responsibility for creating this crisis and for providing the conditions for Isis to come into being. Cameron has finally been shamed into taking more refugees, albeit a small percentage of what other countries like Germany, France & Sweden are taking and providing we can choose who we take and from where, but where is the response from the main cause of this crisis - the US.
