The Master Says...

Paris Hilton: "I don't eat that!"

I knew there was a downside to this pandemic.

The Master Says...

One of my favourite pieces of movie dialogue, courtesy of "From Dusk Till Dawn".

Juliette Lewis: Where are we going?
Quentin Tarantino: Mexico.
Juliette Lewis: What's in Mexico?
Quentin Tarantino: Mexicans.

EDIT: Damn you G@z, this makes no sense now you've removed your comment!

To be serious for a moment
Does anyone really understand what the fuck is going on.
I heard a "Doctor or some Health expert" say on the Radio that every year tens of thousands extra people die from the normal flu virus which occurs without any talk of pandemics or the end of the World.
I am unsure why this present outbreak is so serious and potentially fatal for the whole world. Why are these cases in Mexico so important, People catch the flu, infect others and some die every year without this huge interest.
From what I can gather all the deaths which have occurred are in or linked in some way to Mexico, elsewhere in the World the cases are milder and respond to treatment. The little girl who died in Texas was Mexican ( I believe), my sympathies and condolences go out to her family and the other families affected and whilst any death is a tragedy the total death toll is "only" 200 approx. How many people die from malaria and the normal flu virus etc and noone gives a damm. I know that Mexico has its problems with Healthcare, poverty etc but I am not an expert.Mexico City is Huge. Some other Expert said that there might have been a delay in treating the Patients in Mexico but who knows.
How can the "the normal person in the street" make a judgement on how serious this is. The Newspapers and other Media seem almost gleeful on how many are going to die and forecasting the End of Civilisation as we know it. With the 24hr News Media you get a constant stream of "Experts" being interviewed and saying how serious the Situation could be.( Note "Could be")Even then some of these Experts then contradict each other, ones recommends Face Masks another says they are a waste of time. I suppose the Drug Companies are going to make Billions out of this.Prehaps it is in thier interest to hype the situation as much as they can. Profits!!!! Who knows?
The situation looks potentially very serious. ( stressing the word Potentially)
BUT this is what they said about Bird Flu and Sars and sod all happened.
The WHO (not the Band but the World Health people) have raised their alert level but I cannot remember any mention of this with SARs and Bird Flu.
Im not too worried (at least not at the moment) and I know we have to be prepared etc but it would be nice if the Media took a deep breath and reported the facts without focusing all the time on the totally worst case scenario, and not spreading panic.
I'm not sure if there are any Health Professionals amongst the forum Members but it would be interesting to see what they think

(Being so serious has tired me out_Going for a nap)

A serious reply to a serious post on the BabeShows forum? What is the world coming to?

The problem with this outbreak of swine flu is that, unlike normal outbreaks of flu, it is probably not going to be contained by large proportions of the population having immunity through vaccination or through previous infection. This is what normally limits outbreaks to local epidemics at worst. That is the basis of the concerns by national and international health authorities - they are damned if they act and damned if they don't act. However, it may turn out that some people aren't susceptible to the new strain of virus - if so, the outbreaks may be self-limiting and it will look like the authorities over-reacted. Likewise the morbidity and mortality due to infection (illness and death) may be lower than expected in which case it will also look like the authorities over-reacted. The problem is ignorance - it will take a while for the experts to get enough information about the new strain of flu to make better predictions of the outcome. One thing that is certain is that the infection is likely to spread more rapidly in countries without proper public health services.
