Great fight shown by England on the fourth morning, taking 7 wickets in the session and bowling India out for 204. So England need 405 to win but never has anyone successfully chased more than 387 in India.

England are 40-0 at tea.

Gettintg to close of play and not lose any wickets is the hard first bit then have to bat patiently tomorrow to get draw a win is probably unlikely

RE: India v England 2016/2017 Tour - Charlemagne - 20-11-2016 12:08

Chasing 405, England ended day 4 at 87-2

Cook out - was it the last ball of the day? - for 50 England look to Root to consolidate & build but they have to bat for the draw

Losing Cook was a real hammer blow Sad.

Good to see England battling so hard. India should still win, but at least England are giving them a tough fight and when the innings began they would have taken two wickets down at stumps. Overall a great day for England and it's a shame they had one terrible hour on the second day which is likely to cost them the match.

105 - 4 it's hard to see anything but a crushing Indian victory and you can definitely point back to that hour on the second evening when England collapsed

Pathetic batting collapse.

England all out at 158. India win by 246 runs.

And Broad's injured and may miss the next match

The game was lost on day two really.
The 5 first wickets lost in that first innings on day two proved very damaging. First innings runs are so important in India. Failure to get them made England chase the game from that point on.
The game had virtually gone after two days.
Another collapse on day 5 is poor but to some degree understandable given a wearing pitch where some balls were keeping low and others were getting bounce.
Nobody would want to bat last on that track trying to save the match. It just emphasizes again how important the first innings was.
I doubt it will be much different in the next 3 matches either. Win toss, bat first, make loads of runs, apply scoreboard pressure and take your chances.
Need a bit of luck of course but first innings runs are absolutely critical.
