I'd like to see Jofra Archer batting higher at 7. He's a good hitter in the Andre Russell style

Great Result! Well played England.

You'd have got long odds on Root scoring the first 2 boundaries of the match with Roy and Bairstow in ahead of him.

Archer was very impressive indeed with 3 wickets and an economy rate of less than 4 an over.

And our gun all-rounder Stokes came to the party with the fastest half-century of the match (50 off 45) plus top score of the match, (89 off 79) great run out, superb catch and the final two wickets. What's the cricketing equivalent of Roy of the Rovers? Bothamesque, perhaps?

And to think I was sitting there thinking, Oh Gawd, we should have got 350+. Oh me of little faith!

how would you compare Stokes to Botham and Flintoff who would you say is the better all - rounder? I think Botham's upper body strength just makes him that much better than Stokes as he was known to use a heavy bat on the odd occasion. I remember reading once in an autobiography that he actually borrowed or pinched one of Graham Gooch's I think it was during that Headingley test then he went out and smashed 149 Not out as he felt it "had a few runs left in it!" can't remember thr exact weight but I think was around two half pounds heavier than his. Stokes I think has the right to be talked in the same breath as the other two. You could probably say Stokes is on a par with Flintoff as they are in thr modern era but
I am sure many of you will have your own opinions. I'm thinking that today's game could be a real humdinger and think we could see a devastating West Indies win.

Today's match is between West Indies and Pakistan from Trent Bridge

RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 - Charlemagne - 31-05-2019 10:22

West Indies won the toss and decided to field first

RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 - Charlemagne - 31-05-2019 12:22

Pakistan were blown away by an agressive West Indies bowling attack and were all out for just 105.

Note to other teams: Pakistan don't like fast short of a length balls

West Indies reach the total of 105 in just 13.4 overs. Chris Gayle got a 34 ball -50.

Who knew!! The two things that are irritating me about this tournament so far - apart from what it seems will be flat hit me tracks throughout -, are the number of short deliveries that have been no - balled for height, and the wides that have been called, despite the batsman moving way outside the off stump. It has become too ridiculous for words!! This is not - as cricket at limited overs has not been for a long time now - a contest. Don't think I will tune in much to be honest, with the other sporting fare on offer......WRC and IOM TT.
