Konta's had a good year at the Grand Slams so far and should be proud of her achievements. A semi final at the French Open when she'd previously never won a match there followed by a quarter final at Wimbledon is a good result. Strycova is a very underrated player and has an exceptional game, especially on grass, where she can really make it difficult for opponents.

The big three in the ATP continue to dominate. What a brutal generation this has been for all other players having to compete with Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. I heard today that between them they have won over 40% of majors since the beginning of the Open Era which began in 1968. It is a staggering number, even for their achievements. Surprised

What showed with Jo Konta is that when she was the underdog in the matches against Stephens and Kvitova she was more relaxed and played her best tennis while when she is favourite to win as she was yesterday against Strycova she couldn't find her best tennis and after she lost the first set I couldn't see her coming back and the second set and match went away from her very quickly

What did you think of her reaction to the journalist in the press conference after the match? I thought she was being unnecessarily defensive. Not sure that the journalist asked any questions that were particularly 'patronising' as she described them.

From listening to the Tennis Podcast on the subject they thought the question was a legitimate one but they disagreed with the way the reporter asked it..

This was.typical Jo press conference when she loses where she said I thought I did my best my opponent was just better. Up until she played a sloppy game to get broken back in first set she was dominating the match but after that match got away from her very quickly
Compared to what Andy Murray has had to put up with from journalists pre Olympics, US Open win the questions she gets asked are quite tame

The journalist was patronizing and disrespectful. Konta had every right to defend herself. His questioning was wrong and showed a lack of understanding of the game. He's probably never picked up a racket in his life. I thought fair play to Konta for standing up for herself.

As for the other point about doing her best and the opponent was better? Yes and yes. Strycova was better.

Simona v Serena final.

RE: Wimbledon 2019 - Regenerated - 11-07-2019 23:43

I want Halep to win.

RE: Wimbledon 2019 - Charlemagne - 13-07-2019 15:06

Serena's taken a haleping from Simone 6-2, 6-2.

RE: Wimbledon 2019 - Regenerated - 13-07-2019 15:26

That was a massacre. 56 minutes. Easy. Smile

Great stuff, worthy result.

BBC reporting it as "stunning/shocking" as though Halep wasn't good enough Sad
