RE: Multiple Stabbings at Southport Mother & Baby Centre. - dundeered - 05-08-2024 09:12 Here is an excellent twitter thread summing up the state of the situation. https://x.com/bellacaledonia/status/1820206404910628972?s=61&t=3OodtZMhCvNXcQ2MhJtEqQ RE: Multiple Stabbings at Southport Mother & Baby Centre. - Snooks - 05-08-2024 11:33 I am naturally appalled at the events of recent days. And once again I am given cause to lament social media and the effect it has generated in British society and many other social systems around the world. A breeding ground for vitriol, hate, nastiness, rancour, blame and counter blame. Now also shown to be a platform for organising riots and disorder. All that is worst in humanity being exposed to its fullest degree. Keyboard warriors emboldened to the point of balaclava thuggery on the streets of this country. I have long slammed the calling of both the Scottish independence referendum and the Brexit one. They both caused nothing but division, rancour and nastiness. The more you ask questions about whether people want to break away from everything and everybody the more consequence you have to face up to. Such questions are self righteous navel gazing to the enth degree. There are large swathes of the population that clearly feel disenfranchised and lacking opportunity in life. I know because I talk to them every day in my job. Trying to keep people on a sensible trajectory is getting increasingly challenging at least in part because of the gap between rich and poor growing incessantly. Gap in opportunity, gap in perceived self worth, gap in ability to achieve basic things for oneself or for ones family unit. The danger is that level of disconnect descends into protest, thuggery and violence. We, like so many countries are faced with an ever more complex and agonising recalibration of our identity as a nation. The risk of getting increasingly polarised and going down the road of the Americans should be obvious. Division creates hell. Unity is key but is becoming more and more like a pipe dream. RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - skully - 05-08-2024 12:56 We've split the Southport thread, although the knife attack was where this started, the riots are racist in nature and not really about the victims or community of Southport, they've used it as an excuse to suit their own agenda, it's not about ending knife crime, it's targeting innocent people due to their race or religion. RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - SecretAgent - 05-08-2024 13:08 There seems to be a conspiracy to target immigration lawyers and associated groups on Wednesday. I'm sure the authorities will be on alert for anything but it does show that these attacks are being coordinated. RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - Tumble_Drier - 05-08-2024 17:20 I'll just point out that this thread was split off from elsewhere thus making my post the first but I most certainly did not choose the title as I at least try to avoid telling others how to think. My opinion of what's gone on is pretty clear but do not try to think for me. RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - skully - 05-08-2024 17:43 I've amended the first post to make that clear, nobody was trying to think for you, it's just how title changes work on split threads. Apologies. RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - Rammyrascal - 05-08-2024 21:59 Oh the irony of Tommy Robinson complaining about the safety of him & his family and his kids worried people are coming for them RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - lovebabes56 - 06-08-2024 06:59 I think we all knew this was likely to happen and it was a just a question of 'when' and not 'if' I think one outcome from all this once it dies down, is the roles social media sites now have to play in this & they need to think far more seriously about the level of content they allow in future, that could re-ignite this, and they need to show some teeth in dealing with such information & content. They have been lax for far too long. And the newspapers also need to be far more careful too in what they print. RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - gunnar - 06-08-2024 11:12 After putting in a long shift of rioting, you have to refuel, with some Greggs sausage rolls. https://www.yahoo.com/news/pictured-rioter-steals-tray-sausage-205246302.html RE: UK Riots (Racism & Misinformation At Fault) - SecretAgent - 06-08-2024 11:18 I would have thought Balaclava manufacturers would have been in short supply over the last 50 years but seemingly these rioters have an unlimited supply of them - or is it their grandma's taking orders at short notice? |
