The new opening partnership for New Zealand delivered a 105 runs, Conway has been struggling & Young has been unlucky to miss out after being Man of the Series against India. At 172-2 the Kiwis played some reckless shots to let England back in to the contest. Santner & South took the attacking option to take the score beyond 300.
England need to strike early & not let the lead build close to 350.

Rain has delayed the start of day 3 with sunshine & showers forecast for the next 3 hours, but an improving outlook. The game has moved on a pace, so losing time should impact to any great degree. I don't really see New Zealand declaring unless England struggle to take wickets. Generally 5 sessions should be adequate to bowl a side out in the 4th innings, so unless New Zealand collapse it could be around 600 run target. The media are already speculating how many England could chase, in there minds nothing is beyond them, in reality New Zealand might already have enough, they are playing to the standard that you usually expect of them after looking bout of sorts in the first 2 matches.

The rain has stopped, the delay has been down to a wet outfield, the re-start will be 00.30 GMT. Both session will be extended with the final session set to be 3 hours.
