Yep thats how a remake is supposed to be remade, The Departed is a great film

C4 at 11:30 I think, John Carpenter is a legend.

When Kurt Russell and Carpenter join up they make great movies except Escape From L.A which was shit but The Thing is one of my all time favourite movies.

I love the Escape From movies, and the Escape from New York theme has got to go down as one of my favourites.

He wrote great music for his films. Best was the music he wrote for Assault on Precinct 13.

I agree, his music is nothing spectacular, but its simple and it works, his theme for Halloween is truly epic though.

Although I'm not entirely sure he wrote it I'm sure he had some part in the making of it.

He's listed as composer for both http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000118/

Has he ever won an Oscar?

I'm pretty sure he hasn't but he is definitely someone who should have done, he's always been a guy who has worked on a low budget, but movies that he made thirty years ago as you mentioned, Assault On Precinct 13 being one, are still great to watch today, mainly due to a cult following, but people wouldn't be watching today if they weren't still great films.

Not sure, don't think so - It'll say on the link if he has.

No he hasn't won one yet, he should though.

RE: Whats your favourite film? - Bosse - 08-11-2008 23:20

I'm pretty sure he hasn't, shame, he has real quality, and when you put his usual film monetary budget in comparison to other Oscar winning directors at his time you can clearly see he deserved more credit.
