RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 28-07-2013 18:47 When I was growing up Dundee United were always challenging for honours, whether it be the League or European Cups. I sort of took it all for granted. Dundee United were always particulary impressive at home. It was fortress tannadice, nobody liked coming to our ground, we were truly feared. When the opposition used to score we used to all think what a bloody cheek - how dare they Dundee United and Aberdeen were given the nickname of the The New Firm. Although rivals, Alex Ferguson and Jim Mclean were very good friends and used to encourage each other every time yet another scalp of the Old Firm was taken. Times have long changed since then, I am under absolutely no doubts whatsoever that Celtic will once again win the league, somebody might put in an early season challenge but as we all know over the course of a season Celtic will be miles clear at the top. Once Rangers come back to the top league then it will be back again to a 2 horse race. At present all the teams outwith Celtic will first and foremost make sure that they get enough points on the board as to not to end up at the wrong end of the table. Hearts will start the new season on -15 points and with the financial mess they are in relegation is a real prospect for them as is complete liquidation as they could still be given a winding up order at any time. Very bad times for Hearts and their supporters just now. My hopes this season is as it always is, hopefully to finish in the top 3 and qualify for Europe and to win one of the cups. Another Scottish Cup would be much appreciated. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 02-08-2013 07:19 Celtic and St Johnstone won again Motherwell, not too good. And as for Swansea doing to Malmo what Malmo did to Hibernian... RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 05-08-2013 16:31 So week 1 of the newly named Scottish Premiership finaly got underway on Friday night and it and it was definately Firhill for thrills. I thought that the opening game of the season was an absolute cracker and it kept me on the edge of my seat from the word go. On paper it ended 0-0 between Partick Thistle and Dundee United but it was anything but dull. As a Dundee United supporter I was more than happy to escape with a point. We were very lucky not to have been given 2 penaltys against us and new signing Callum Butcher can count himself very lucky not have been given a straight red card for his fierce 2 footed challenge. I thought it was end to end stuff. Later on I watched Celtic take on Ross County and I have to say I thought County played some fantastic stuff and Celtic can probably count themselves very lucky to get all 3 points as they got at Celtic from the word go and showed the rest that Celtic are definately there for the taking. It was obvious for all to see just how much they will miss Garry Hooper and Victor Wanyama this season as I thought they struggled to command the midfield of the park aswell as the finishing being less than clinical up front. Yesterday I watched the Hibs v Motherwell game, if I was a betting man I'd put the smart money on Pat Fenlan being the first manager casualty of the season, Hib's to me showed the kind of form that I reckon will have them once again at the wrong end of the table. I think Motherwell will once again prove to be a hard team to beat and from their point of view will do well to hold onto Stuart Mccall. All the results from week 1. Partick Thistle 0 - Dundee United 0 Hibernian 0 - Motherwell 1 St Johnstone 1 - Hearts 0 Aberdeen 2 - Kilmarnock 1 Inverness CT 3 - St Mirren 0 Celtic 2 - Ross County 1 Hearts Remain on -15 points and I'd imagine the only thing that matters to their fans is safety. Lastly a few eyebrow's must have been rasied on Saturday when they seen this result from the first round of the League Cup which ended. Forfar Athletic 2-1 Rangers (aet) How the mighty have sunk RE: Scottish Football - Fernandez Esperenda - 05-08-2013 18:47 Rangers are a mess! RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 05-08-2013 19:02 It makes me laugh that McCoist's job is supposed to be on the line! Poor bloke's doing his best, it's hardly his fault that Rangers got mega-punished for being run by a bunch of bad lads, is it? They'll still win whatever division they're in this time by a country mile. It would be like sacking Neil Lennon if Celtic don't win every single game. RE: Scottish Football - mikedafc - 05-08-2013 22:35 Thought it was a good gesture by St Johnstone to donate a pound for every Hearts supporter that came to Perth yesterday to the fighting fund to help Hearts fc. Much better than the Raith offer to Dunfermline Ath where they would pay the money for any Dunfermline fan over 2000 that went to their match at Starks Park which ended up with only Raith making money RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 09-08-2013 07:06 St Johnstone were unlucky last night Celtic survive to carry the flag for a while longer; Motherwell well beaten. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 10-08-2013 17:57 Queen's Park 1 East Stirling 3!!! We're top of the table!!! Quick, end the season now!!! RE: Scottish Football - Sm© - 10-08-2013 18:20 Good 1 nil win for a piss poor Celtic team against a piss poor Liverpool team...Hey the locals loved it, 80k sellout |
