Apparently cases are rising in London faster than rest of UK I'm saying apparently here because as I hsave not seen any firm data to confirm this statistic

As for the Measure on employers an they employees' pay, it is a good thing but I think it should have gone that little further to give comfort to those who run our own business as well as other people who work in industries where there is no employment contract. Not only that I hope the procedure to accessing the money is strong, secure and robust enough to stop unscrupulous claims by those who may see it as an easy way to get extra cash.

I have to say that I'm with the crowds and not with David Elliott's fun police.
I wonder how history will report all this, 'Would you believe that in 2020 the human race was put on hold just because a few people died of the common cold' Huh
But I might be forced to change my opinion Smile

Maybe you should move to Italy, where 600 people a day are dying.

According to government scientists, if nothing was done to combat the virus in this country, and it was left to run its course, the expected death toll would be in excess of a quarter of a million people. That's more than a few. One estimate this week said it would be nearer to half a million.

I hope so.

I think a lot of people still believe that these measures are about protecting them from catching the virus. So it's easy to be cavalier, because hundreds of deaths in a country of 60 million people makes the possibility seem so remote that the risk is negligible. You'd never drive a car or go swimming if you were scared of those odds.

But social distancing isn't about protecting you from the virus -- it's to stop you from spreading it. A majority of people who carry the virus will never feel any symptoms, but that doesn't stop them from spreading it and, eventually, it will find its way to someone who is more vulnerable or susceptible.

Not for the first time, we are lulled into a sense of apathy by statics that sound trivial, like only 2% of people who catch the virus will show severe symptoms and only 1% will die. But when a virus is so contagious that the whole population can catch it, 1% is a LOT of people.

It reminds me of the inquest into the Challenger disaster (showing my age there), when the engineer cheerily said that the failure rate of the O-ring in the booster rockets was only between 1-2%. But with 2 O-rings on 2 boosters per launch, that's a real risk of failure on one out of every 25 launches. And by then they'd already launched the shuttle more than 50 times and had another 100 missions in planning. Richard Feynman quickly did the maths and the whole room went silent.

1% matters!

In short, we should all regulate our behaviour on the assumption that we already have the virus -- not according to our fear of catching it.

It seems an extra £1BN of food is sitting in peoples houses after the panic buying in the last 3 weeks. Greedy fuckers! There is no food shortage except the one created by these cunts.
