(16-02-2013 08:45 )Rammyrascal Wrote:  was saying it was the xmas special because bbc will want the maximum ratings for it and the dr who xmas special always seems to get the best ratings

What they might do to max the ratings is end with the regeneration. Stopping to think about it they won't do a whole one off episode with a new Doctor and then have everyone waiting a few months to see him again.
Just hope they choose wisely. With the current producers we will probably end up with a camp Doctor, struggling to find his tortured, real self!! bladewave

I've been on several DW boards this evening, and would you believe that NOT ONE is discussing this shock news?

This is the 1st I've heard of it.

RE: Dr Who - Ducky - 17-03-2013 10:02

I mentioned before, a long while ago that I am a bit of Doctor Who novel geek. As much as I enjoy the TV show with Matt Smith and the Ponds, I found myself sometimes missing the 9th & 10th Doctors and the other companions, so I decided to purchase a 10th Doctor novel and have been reading these on my work break breaks and as bed time reading for well over a year.

I've read all the 9th Doctor novels, feat Rose and Captain Jack. (My personal favorite was The Stealers Of Dreams.)

I've read almost all of the 10th Doctor novels, feat Rose (My personal favorite is The Resurection Casket), Martha (My personal favorites were Sick Building & Snowglobe 7) & Donna (My personal favorite was Beautiful Chaos).
Personally, I felt Martha's character was the best fleshed out & explored.

I've read all of the 11th Doctor novels, feat Amy & Rory Pond (my personal favorites were Hunters Moon, Paradox Lost, Borrowed Time & The Silent Stars Go By)

With the 3 newest already on pre-order via Amazon, featuring Clara Oswin Oswald.

Many of the novels are really great adventures, where as some are a bit of a let down IMO, but that's down to the various authors & my own personal taste.

After reading, I then donate them to charity shops, regularly and I've noticed that they sell on very quickly.
And sometimes, I send them to Charlene Hart's daughter, who I met during a photo shoot with Charlene & it turned out that she's a BIG Who geek too, lol.

So anyway, if the long breaks inbetween each series & Xmas specials does your head in, like it does my own, then I recommend you start by purchasing the excellent, The Silent Stars Go By, feat classic villains, The Ice Warriors

New series looking promising with old villains Cybermen, Martian Ice Warriors and Sontarans all making an appearance.
I just hope they are not going to spend most of the time trying to discover who the real companion is, though will be happy if they keep River out of the storylines but can't see that happening Rolleyes

RE: Dr Who - bytor - 18-03-2013 17:45

The first story of Doctor Who's 2013 run, The Bells of Saint John, will be screened on Easter Saturday, 30 March. Described by the director as a "proper London thriller", it sees the Doctor and new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) battling an evil entity in the world's wifi networks.

Future episodes see the return of the Cybermen and old enemy the Ice Warriors, who last appeared during the Jon Pertwee era in 1974. Matt Smith has said, "It's going to be the biggest and best and most inventive and most exciting year for the show,"

It's also been announced that the 50th anniversary special, due to begin filming in April, will be broadcast in 3D around the show's birthday in November. Apparently it will pay homage to classic Dr Who while looking to the future. Without wishing to sound cynical I shall reserve judgement!

Matt Smith could leave his lead role in Doctor Who at Christmas, according to a report from BBC insiders. He is said to be making his exit in the festive special. Officially there has not been any confirmation of this. Ties in with posts Rammy made a while ago.

RE: Dr Who - Rammyrascal - 22-03-2013 19:06

yeah if i remember correctly, i said matt would be leaving as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of drwho and it would be this years xmas special he would leave in because the bbc will want the biggest ratings possible and the drwho xmas special tends to get very good ratings at xmas
