Top effort boys. There's no shame in losing a final by one penalty.

Disappointing that the 2 guys he brought on to take penalties missed. It’s progress though - I’d rather win the World Cup Smile

We never win a shootout when Tom Cruise is in the crowd. The man's a fucking jinx.

One day I'll figure out what Marcus Rashford was doing but for now I'll assume it was an audition for Strictly.

Need to think of it this way Lost final on Pens

and half our attacking talent was on the bench

Not one for rubbing it in, level game after 90 was fair I’d say England dominant first Italy 2nd with Italy continuing to be the more dangerous looking in extra time, a good entertaining final and most dramatic with pens which really could have swung either way but very happy to see Italy Euro Champions Cool

I think to even to get the World Cup Final wouldn't erase this defeat it's too bitter a pill to swallow at the moment. Southgate took too long
in getting Rashford and should have taken Sterling off, plus we wasted far too much time defending a 1 goal lead and gave the Azzufri too much of the ball and the way we were defending, we was inviting trouble.

Rashford should been involved a lot lot sooner in Extra Time and he got too clever with his penalty. All in all we lost it by trying to defend a 1 goal lead and really we should have scored a second to really rattle them and then sit back. The ref had a poor game for me, he should have been right on top of the fouls ana at least two Italians were lucky to stay on the pitch.

England did us proud it was so close but they should ditch Three Lions for next years world cup obviously football is not coming home because I think it pissed a lot of other teams off hearing the song firing them up making them want to either draw or beat england don't get me wrong it is great football anthem but enough is enough!! I still think they have a good chance to win world cup next year and finally put 1966 to bed but for now I have to listen to my uncle going on about good ole days when england won world cup in 1966.

TBH Italy was better on the night. I think they were weirdly done a favour by conceding that early goal, because it forced them to come out and play in the second half … and boy did they play.

Positives for England:

* One step further in major tournament
* Cracking defence … conceded just two goals from set pieces
* Perennial midfield riddle solved for the near future
* Promising young players that will continue to improve and gain confidence

Lessons:

* Not to be all “can’t win with kids”, but it really makes a difference to have an experienced Chiellini-like figure on the pitch in the latter stages of a major tournament

All in all … good tournament. The two best teams of the whole tournament made it to the final and one of them won through the cruel lottery of penalties.
