RE: Golf - Boomerangutangangbang - 07-09-2025 20:26 In the Walker Cup the morning foursomes on Day 2 were tied 2 - 2 giving USA a 8.5 - 7.5 lead. GB & Ireland would've been hoping for parity or even a lead going into the singles matches after the dominant USA performance on Day 1. It took some Rory magic to make the Playoff as he sank a 27 foot eagle on the 18th to tie the Swede on 17 under. After both player matched birdies on the first & second Playoff holes. Lagergren's approach found water, which allowed an out of positioned McIlroy to play a conservative shot from the rough & a comfortable 2 putt to win.I'm bemused it's being reported like "his first win since the Masters", as if 5 months is 5 years or something, as if golf isn't highly competitive etc Well done him, but i'd be amazed if he lost a single night's sleep since the Masters going "when will I ever win again?!" ![]() RE: Golf - Boomerangutangangbang - 07-09-2025 22:07 ^^ Very true. It is all about expectation with Rory & often unfairly. Given his talent he's expected to have multiple wins in a season in the same way Tiger did at his peak. I just think that the emotions of the Masters win required a re-set, it isn't like his form completely deserted him, he is still the No.2 ranked golfer in the world. He was a 4-1 favourite for this event with just Lowry & Hatton from the Ryder Cup team for company & captain Donald. He was expected to win & got the job done, so well done. RE: Golf - Boomerangutangangbang - 08-09-2025 07:25 Walker Cup USA 17 - 9 GB & Ireland The afternoon single matches on Day 2 went in favour of USA 8.5 - 1.5. THE Cypress Point course was shrouded in mist, but GB & Ireland had nowhere to hide. RE: Golf - lovebabes56 - 08-09-2025 07:29 Let's hope it is not an omen |
