Well done to England captain Charlotte Edwards in becoming only the second woman to be named as one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year.

Former England team-mate Claire Taylor was the first woman to be included on the list in 2009.

Joe Root was the only England male player to get on the list.

It's long overdue that Wisden has given recognition to female cricketers.
2009 to the first Claire Taylor and now in 2014 the second in Charlotte Edwards. The England's women team have achieved greater success than their men's counterparts in recent months. The English women players are now professional. Smile

The ICC are to introduce a radical new system whereby the leading associate nation can play official 5 day test matches against the lowest ranked of the 10 test teams. This is excellent news for Ireland as they have won the Intercontinental Cup more than any of their rivals at associate level.

Excellent news for England as it they should be able to get some good deals on the ferry over to Dublin Big Grin

In my opinion England should not use players from associate nations such as Ireland. How on earth is Irish cricket going to develop if England swipe all their top talent? It gets me really annoyed that the country who invented the game - and have the longest tradition - have to trawl the globe to acquire potential international quality players. annoyed

If Ireland can build a strong domestic structure then there will be no need for their best players coming over to play County Cricket in England, you can't stopped players wanting to earn more money & improve against better opposition.England will continue to pick the best players.I doubt Morgan,Joyce or Rankin would've ever been selected had they not represented Middlesex,Sussex & Warwickshire.

Agree that England should be able to field more home grown talent. What I meant was the way they are going they will be the bottom of the "top" sides so should find it an easy trip to complete that fixture.

Under the new ICC structure England (undeserving based on recent results), Australia and India weld a vast amount of power off the field. The Future Tours Programme has been axed and replaced by the old system whereby not all sides played against everyone else. This has been done for purely financial reasons - and to quell the BCCI who were threatening to withdraw from all 5 day test cricket.

I hope KP has a good day in the IPL today and shows England what they are missing!!

Not against KP (or your post Babelover).
I love sport and cricket is tops for me but personally I could not give a flying **** about what happens in the IPL.

Edit - Although would have to agree if he does really well could be eggs on face time for the England set up.
