Reports that the Ukrainians are hitting the Bridges over the Dnieper to slow down the withdrawal. It seems there are thousands of Russian Troops stuck on the wrong side (for them) of the River.

This could be a real bloodbath. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

The Russians are supposed to be establishing a new defensive line on the south side of the river, so it will be interesting to see if they can still manage to do that. In the meantime they have apparently left plenty of mines and booby traps behind them as they retreat, so the Ukraine forces need to be very careful in Kherson.

Kherson City Centre back in Ukrainian hands.

Looking at the Live Map at https://liveuamap.com/ a push south from Zaporizhzia must be tempting for Ukraine. This would isolate Crimea quite nicely leaving the Russians with only the damaged bridge to resupply forces there. If they can get to Melitopol it puts the Russian Black Sea Fleet right in the Cross Hairs.

Slightly further north, Donetsk looks very vulnerable too.

In my completely uninformed and non expert opinion it looks like Russia is actually pulling back to Crimea. I suspect we'll find that they already withdrew their best (in comparison) Troops and left the poor buggers who were mobilised in & around Kherson. As it stands, around 20,000 of them are stranded on the wrong side of the Dnieper and many of the crossings, including the Antonovsky Bridge have been knocked out.

Lots of reports of huge amounts of Russian Kit being left behind too. I'm sure the bits that are designed to go bang will be returned to their former owner.Wink

The Russians have dug in on the other side of the Dnipro and will be very difficult to dislodge from there. The big worry is they'll just sit there and reduce Kherson to rubble with artillery. Retaking Kherson however, safeguards Odessa and Ukraine's access to the Black Sea.

Commentators seem to think the Ukrainians will concentrate further north on Donetsk and Luhansk now.
It must be very tempting to push down through Donetsk to Mariupol and cut the Russians off that way. Retaking Mariupol would be a huge morale and propaganda boost for Ukraine.

Apparently the Ukrainians are across the river onto the Kimburn peninsula already Surprised

Risky move but fucking hell, they're not hanging about.

^Some big fucking brass balls on display launching an amphibious assault there!

They're either trying to flank the Russian defensive liines on the far bank of the river or it's a diversion for something coming from the north. Or possibly even both!

So the Russians have withdrawn from an area that's supposed to be part of Russia now and to be defended by all means necessary including the nuclear option. The 300,000 newly mobilised troops don't seem to have helped much.

Sounds like they are also trying to cut off any troops as well to pick them off, which leads me to thinking, do we know if either side are employing snipers? we haven't heard if either side are but I imagine there are snipers on either side.

Wonder how long it will be before we hear about any new russian atrocities as they retreat?

How long supply - wise can the Russians dig in? and how well prepared would they be for any bitter winter? And would Ukraine risk repeating thr Finnish tatics of the winter war of using ski troops and a tactic of hitting certain enemy troop positions? And when you think about more Russian troops died of frostbite in '41 than being shot, as they were not so well prepared back then for a Finnish winter.
