Looking at the map, the nearest major Ukrainian City to Przewodow where the missile struck is Lviv.

Photos on Twitter show wreckage that apparently looks like it's from an S300 Air Defence Missile. The Russians have been using these as makeshift surface to surface weapons but Ukraine also has them.

Assuming it's a Russian missile it has a range of up to 400km for the latest version so it could only have been launched from southwestern Belarus and not occupied territory in the East of Ukraine.

Other possibilities are that it was hit by Ukrainian AA fire & knocked off course or that it's a Ukrainian Air Defence Missile gone astray.

An urgent de-escalation must now be attempted. Emergency meetings by the governments of Poland and Hungary and in the Pentagon are now taking place.

All sides will of course be keen to corroborate the nature of the missile strikes or if it is missile debris from a shot down missile aimed for Lviv.

Worrying messages coming from Latvia and Lithuania though about "defending our NATO ally". Of course they must be seen to defend a NATO partner, but I fear words about retaliation are premature.

Stretching coincidence a bit for two missiles to get knocked off course at the same time and the same place.

It's possible air defence missiles fired from the Lviv area at missiles incoming from Belarus could have carried on into that part of Poland. But again, I'm not sure they'd be firing them in pairs.

Once they get the data analysed from the AWACS patrolling out there, they will know where they came from.

Nato Sec Gen Jens Stoltenberg: "No indication this was deliberate or Russia preparing offensive military actions against Nato. Prelim analysis suggests incident likely caused by Ukrainian air defence missile fired to defend Ukraine against Russian cruise missiles. But this is not Ukraine's fault.

Last night I spoke with Duda and Biden. We agreed we need to stay vigilant, calm and closely coordinated. We will continue to consult and monitor the situation very closely. Nato stands united and we will always do what is necessary to protect and defend all allies."

So how long could it be before we know where it Came from - and who fired it?

From what I read a little earlier, Nato, America and Poland have said that because Ukraine Air Defence were shooting down a cruise missile so close to the border, one of their missiles went into Poland by accident. They aren't blaming Ukraine as such, seeing as they were just defending their territory from Russia, but they're also saying that Russia weren't trying to escalate things further. They have said though that it's still Russia's fault, because if they hadn't been launching so many cruise missiles into Ukraine, targeting infrastructure etc, then this would never have happened.
Can't really argue with that, although Ukraine aren't happy that they're being blamed, even though this is a tragic accident by all accounts.

Air raid sirens sounding again. 100+ missiles detected in Ukrainian airspace.

Approximately 30 minutes before they could hit Kyiv assuming that’s one of the targets.

I saw somewhere that one of Putin's Generals - General Gerasimov (military advsors) 'mysteriously disappeared' after a meeting with Putin.

I wonder what would be the only way to get Putin out of office now. I do not think the military will turn on him, as they probably feel that could spark another civil war and having Russia at war within itself would do little to ease things world wide.

Russian troops, weapons and military equipment flooding into Belarus right now. Russian planes arriving too. Military exercises in progress.
