Something that has been missing from a lot of the media coverage of Johnson's announcement is that he cannot call an election. The fixed term parliament act means that he has to get Parliament's approval for an election, so they could pass the legislation to block No Deal the vote against a general election

so the only way an election can be called is if he lost a no confidence vote then?

I wonder how quickly they would have to deselect him if Johnson gets his way if Hammond voted against the Government?

It's not as straight forward as that, there are many permutations. The original talk around a vote of no confidence was forming the so called National Unity Government, though how they can call it that when it would be made up of remain MPs I don't know, so there would not have been an election, or at least an instant one then, of course you would need to go to the polls sooner or later if that were to occur.

In addition, journalist Tom Newton Dunn is reporting that a senior Labour source close to Corbyn has informed him that Corbyn has told him he still wants his MPs to vote for an October 14 general election tomorrow, but with a ‘mechanism’ attached to lock in an A50 extension to avoid No Deal and the Shadow Attorney General Baroness Chakrabarti has stated that the party would not necessarily vote against a GE but that they need to get the sequencing right, that legislation to stop no deal and taking Parliamentary Sovereignty back from the grasp of Number 10 is the priority

According to Sky News there are about 20 rebels looking to defy the whip including Hammond, Letwin, Grieve, Greening, Gymiah, Stewart & Soames (Churchill's Grandson, which tickles me because Johnson has been riding the coattails of Churchill most of his career & now his grandson is giving him the family's signature two fingers)

No idea how many abstentions

And what a shitsorm it will be for PM Johnson

Could he be forced out of office before we even leave the EU?
